I think it will be fine for playing garage rock bass lines. I wasn't trying to revolutionize the 6 string bass world, I was just making a cheap-o bass 6 style neck for my friend.
That's a good point, because I do plan on using it to play pitch-perfect arpeggios above the 12th fret, except when I do it, Malmsteen has the common courtesy to call the Toez arpeggios, ya jerk.

Thanks! As soon as it's done and setup, I'll do a demo video. If it works well, I'll run it through some different amps.

I love my Gretsch tuned E-E but fuck those awful D'addario Bass VI strings. The E has the tension of melted dildo.
I ordered a set of Ernie ball strings that are supposedly designed for the Bass VI, and they were relatively inexpensive. Right now I'm thinking I might use the E-B-G from the D'addario set (because they are a little heavier), and the D-A-E from the Ernie Ball set, because they are thicker gauges. If that doesn't do it, I'll just use some bass singles for D-A-E. I looked into getting the gretsch, but they must be nice, because I couldn't find a used one anywhere.

Reminds me of this. 6 string 30", I guess that is why they call it the Argus 630.

I haven't done a proper demo video, but here are a few videos that show how the finished product looks and sounds.

thanks, man. Both the bass VI, and the standard electric guitars are custom builds with most of the work done by holycats

Really like the one on Vimeo. The VI sounds class and it's nice to see the guitar project in action, too. Top work all round.

Thanks, James. We were doing a radio show, and a friend of ours came in to film it. he does really nice work, so I'm gonna plug his site, Mostly Midwest . I'm really happy with the way the VI sounds and plays, and the short-scale sixer that Holycats plays is really nice.
