Yep, can definitely vouch for the playability of CBS-era Fender. My '78 Musicmaster plays wonderfully. As with a lot of them, the neck-pocket leaves something to be desired aesthetically, but the guitar still sustains & resonates much better than guitars that looked like they were put together with more care.
Agree that we should perpetuate the myth that these guitars are wank to keep 'em cheap though.
Maybe we can devise a way to stop the Google-bots caching this thread?
