They're actually a hit with a lot of people surprisingly
I don't know why I find it so amusing people whine about Fender fudges these days when it was Fender fudges that created most of the oddball stuff people like from the old days.
The company has always done this. As long as Squier is churning out the good stuff at reasonable prices I see zero reason to be depressed. Fender isn't making guitars for us anymore, that's been the case for a while now. We are not their demographic.

you've got a good point mike, fender was long associated with the workingmans guitars. and in reality, the "average" working man can still score a new mexi strat or tele for a reasonable price, if its on sale and what not, but for the most part.
the american stuff, or the higher end models are not in the working class budget anymore. thus the used market thrives, and squier appeals more and more.
also, if you look at the u.s. economy, more new guitars were bought, and are still around from those eras in history than any other, i would expect certain trends to also have a say in this. but whatever.

Nope. I'm sure it plays great. I've not tried a new Fender in the last few years that wasn't fine to play. My problem with it is that it's awful design: it looks like a Stagg guitar or that pony Hohner offset that was around a while back. Acres of pickguard. That tiny, embarrassed 'JAGUAR' on the massive headstock.
Fender are obviously aiming some of their guitars right at us lot - vaguely indie/alternative/Vampire Weekend fans - with stuff like the Pawnshop series, the Super-Sonic reissue, Blacktops. There also seemed to be a hundred different Jaguars and J Mascis sig models last time I looked. Maybe I've got the demographic wrong, but alt-rockers who're now earning enough to buy a £600 guitar seems about right.

I wouldn't be surprised if they reissue it, but I would be surprised if they did it without somehow fucking it up.
Modern Player Starcaster.

Modern Player Starcaster.

If anything, it's probably going to be a chambered mahogany body in the shape of a Starcaster, with P-90s and Gibston hardtails and a ULTRA FLAMED maple top.
