I thought the marauder was 25.5 scale? It would be on my list if it was 24 or even 24.75.

I've only own full scales, but did love the neck on my mustang. Jumbo frets are a must.

Is this across the board, or do you think you got a lemon? I've not had a chance to play one in person (seems almost impossible to find these in stores), but I would like to get a shortscale again. The VMs are the obvious choice for me, because of the price and because I much prefer a 9.5" radius. There is one on CL with a hard case, Mustang bridge and buzz stop for $325...seems like a decent deal, but if I'm going to need to replace all the pots and rewire the whole thing anyway, then I'd rather spring for a Classic Player or something.Thomas wrote:The Jazz I had was great build wise. Great platform for modding and you can pick up a secondhand one on ebay for about £150. At that sort of price it's a no-brainer. If you're buying new, test as many as you can. The quality of the wiring is all over the place. Make sure you use a dirt pedal on it. Dirt through mine created an instant horrible shoegaze cycling noise cos the electronics were so borked on it.

I used to think my VM Jaguar sounded too honky, but later I realized I just needed to adjust the pickups and change the EQ settings on my amp, since I had it set for my Strat. Now I think it sounds amazing and I want at least 3 more to have in different tunings. My only issue with the electronics is the volume pot on mine, but that's a cheap fix anyway. Oh, and my neck pickup is a little microphonic, enough to cause feedback easily but not enough to be an issue for me, since I actually like it.

Didn't experience any of the issues others have mentioned here save for the wonky bridge (STANDARD) and honky pickups which I replaced.
the neck fit, finish and feel on my Jaguar are all great. It's a better player for the Dusty stuff than my vintage Jag, which is obviously better for those shimmer laden COWBOY CHORUS (copyright Lorez)
If you play first you can't really go wrong.
My VM Jaguar is all I play with the band these days.

I've just remembered you can lock the trem on these by tightening one of the screws.

If you're into it, the Squier Mascis has big jumbo wire, as opposed to the medium jumbo on the VM guitars. (Is it just me or does 'medium jumbo' come up in a weird variety of shapes and sizes?). Depends what you normally use. 11s would be fine for me with that string length and they will still feel quite sturdy.

Whatever you prefer I guess. I use 10s on mine with no issue (although I do have a stayrem bridge).
