I even checked out several sites of shops in cities I will probably visit soon, and for some reason the Squier Mustangs and single-coil Jags seem unavailable in-store anywhere in Europe outside of the UK and Germany.

I can get pretty much anything else where I live and pretty much anywhere else: the hard tailpiece Squier Jazzmaster and Squier HH Jaguar, even the Mexican Jags and Jazzies. Not the USA ones, but I guess they estimated correctly that there isn't much of a market for those.

Well I could order them, but I'd rather examine a guitar before buying.

I remember seeing another, black tolex and silver grill cloth, one of those that looked like a guitar head but longer in the back. Can't remember the make, maybe some USA boutique maker (but I could be wrong on both counts).

The thing is most have only small speakers or maybe just horns.

It's seriously amazing the effect an unusual housing and some nifty colourful rocker-switches can have on the appeal of something; if it looked like a Boss pedal I wouldn't give a fuck, but I kinda want one of these. Not actually, but in theory.

Burgundy Mist as a standard colour for all ranges.

I think the Space Echo pedal is suppose to be the answer to your problem. Reasonable price and no issues with reliability.

3-a-side Kluson style tuners that are slotted so you insert the string into the tuner post. I searched quite a bit a while ago but either couldn't find any or just found one set that cost £55.

Yep, they're cool. Sadly none of them work any more. I bet thirty years later it would be possible to build these with perfect tracking too. I'm aware there is a new fender strat with soft synth access stuff built-in and wireless, which gets around the 13-pin cable nonsense, but that's hardly fuss-free.

Didn't the Squier Rock Band 3 Pro-guitar Strat have MIDI out? They never sold it in the UK.

Yeah, I got a good deal on the 'bay for one of those a while back, and it's a great piece of kit...possibly easier and more convenient to use than the originals in a live situation. Still, I'd love to try out the real thing!

i've had a soft spot for an echoplex, but i'd need to change my amp to get the best out of a delay/time-based effects.

In the teaser videos for Roland's new AIRA range there is a Space Echo sat on the desk where one of the guys is sampling 808/909 sounds. Might indicate they are planning on bringing out an AIRA Space Echo too? Highly unlikely to be tape based but might be worth a look.

I wrote too soon.

I was at my local Fender dealer today to check out a Squier Tele Standard. It sucked, but they just got in a nice Squier Mustang, it was awesome. The only thing I didn't like about it was the colour, it was not red but an orangey salmon.

It might look better under normal lights though (they had neon). I do remember them at one time having a "red" Squier Jag HH which also looked sketchy there.

They also had a Jag in sunburst, but I didn't try it out.
