I got great results doing the following:
1 - Shim to get break angle.
2 - Set intonation.
3 - Clip the low E intonation screw so it doesn't buzz against the string.
4 - Loctite the other intonation screws.
5 - Slightly file the threads under that goddamn low E to stop it jumping.
6 - Change the way I play fingerstyle with my thumb to stop the low E from jumping.

Only took a couple of months.

On my VM Jag, I didn't have to do much. Went up a string size and treated the saddle screws to a coat of silver nail varnish. Once it's dried, you can reinstall them and the excess varnish comes off. It keeps them in there without any need for Loctite which seemed a bit drastic for me. I did sell the guitar but I will have another at the end of the summer.

Does the Staytrem change the tone of the guitar at all?

It stops it rattling and helps it stay in tune. Didn't notice any change in tone.
