Man, that sucks when this happens. Get if fixed and let me know if you want that grill cloth. Good luck, doesn't sound like its anything too major wrong with it, probably just needs a cap job and maybe a couple of resistors replaced. Do this before you take it anywhere, try connecting it to an extension cab and running it that way, to see if it exhibits any of these same issues, just make sure its at least 4 ohms or more. Thanks guys. I am taking it to Jeff at Velvetone so he can give it a check out and let me know what the issue is with it and what needs work. Since there isn't much to this amp, hopefully the damage isn't pricey.

Sent you a message. I could use that cloth if the offer is still out there. I have to make a new baffle because the stock had been nailed to the speaker mount and broke trying to remove it. I am going to make one out of nice plywood. It also needs a new speaker. That was the big issue. He is going to replace the filter cap and check the others. No doubt that it is going to be much MUCH nicer the next round of pictures. Jeff Stone at Velvetone is the best guy in my area. He isn't cheap, but he is super detail oriented and backs all his work.

This amp was totally not described correctly by the way. There is sloppy capacitor work inside, the power cable had the plug cut off and a new one added with electrical tape, the stock speaker has been painted with paint to strengthen the paper, etc. It was a good enough deal that I will keep it and get it fixed, but still lame to have it listed dishonestly. No way that shipping damaged the speaker. It didn't work before shipping is what Jeff said. He knew it was fried by looking at it before even testing it out.

New frame is made. I need to do a bit of sanding on the inner corners before I paint it black, but it should be set to paint very soon.

Now the ethical dilemma. What rating should I give the guy? He is still adamant that it worked totally fine before shipping it in spite of what Jeff said looking it over. Do I ding him for dishonesty or take the high road and just not give him feedback? He hasn't left me feedback and I could see him marking me down because he offered to let ME take the amp to USPS and do the insurance paperwork. I wouldn't buy from him for sure. Only reason I feel the need to post honest feedback is so he is potentially more careful and honest with his other listings in the future.

Oh and I ordered a Weber Signature 8s for it. With shipping it was just $43. I would have gone with the vintage series, but that back magnet just looks too big with the filter can sitting almost on top of it. People seem to dig the Sig 8's so hopefully it will be a good one. I enjoyed the sound demo I heard of it.

I would give him neutral feedback, since he can claim he had "as-is" in his auction, people can be dicks like that.

Was about to advise you to do just this. Ace speaker.

Thanks! The hardest part was deciding to do the S or normal Sig. The ribs are supposed to help make it more durable and a bit louder so it seemed like a good way to go. I know the normal Sigs are more like vintage ones and break up sooner, but I liked the idea of it being a bit more sturdy.

I decided just not to give him any feedback. He was a fast communicator even though I think he is being dishonest. On the off chance he isn't lying, I will just move on. The price was super low and so far the stuff I am replacing is stuff I would have likely changed or updated even if the amp was working fine.

When I get home I need to put wood filler in the plywood gaps so it will be ready to paint tomorrow. After that I will need to put on that grill cloth that I am excited about seeing. My appointment is for April 5th to get it all assembled. Jeff wants to make sure it sounds great with the new speaker before I take off with it and adjust any caps needed to dial in the best sound before calling it done.

Broken old bit next to the new hotness. It is 3/4 instead of 1/2. Hopefully it will still be fine. Tomorrow I sand the wood filler I put in the little voids and then I will paint it black.

Thanks so much! I got the wood sanded now that the voids are full of wood filler. I actually painted one side black and waiting on it to dry.

Heard back from Jeff today. He is worried the new cover won't look right. My friend who did the rough cuts rounded the corners on the outside and Jeff thinks it won't look right. My mom is cutting me a new piece for me to do the interior part myself. Hopefully it goes smoothly. Seems like it should be easier the second time... right?
