definitely was disappointed with the HRD stock, felt it lacked in that special sound vintage tube amps seem to have. just sounded really basic, and it really only brought out the shittier sounds that single coils can have. maybe they fixed that with the III, or maybe a speaker change could've fixed it, but I really didn't wanna sink they money in when I prolly wouldn't get it back. since I got the silvertone I've turned it on maybe once by itself. that said I do miss not having to fight to cut through a mix, but I'll sort that. I'd rather have something that sounds great and not be loud enough than have something that's meh at every volume. always was pretty bummed the HRD didn't have trem too. I feel like fender amps, specially combos need trem and reverb.
oh and the reverb kinda sucks on the HRD, sounds like a digital reverb pedal

like what stew said too, headroom, at least a lil bit, is important to me. one thing I miss is getting feedback with a clean tone. at gig volumes there is nothing near clean the silvertone can get.

so in that case maybe a twins a good idea. starting to look more towards the deluxes cause they sound more rude than crunchy cranked up. still kinda wanna do a piggyback amp.

also did find a silvertone 1484, which has reverb and trem, pretty shit reverb and trem, on reverb for like 350. no cabinet though. would have the extra wattage and the trashy garage tones though.

Vibrolux. Has a lot of character, reasonable volume, and excellent break-up characteristics. I know a lot of people like Fender amps for their cleans but I think a really great amp (for me) has to have decent grit/dirt at reasonable volumes, and the Vibrolux does a great job at that. Bassman a close second.

Jazz Choruses are cool. I've got a Peavey Pacer at the moment, it's cheap, cool and plenty loud. Pretty limited though and quite old.

i like vibroluxes too, they're nice amps.
