I owned an early 80's one with led and earlier power Jack, and tbh I felt the volume let it down a little...same went for the Blue Box I had too...
Shame...would've liked to have held on to it.....Bob Mould a'la Husker Du tonezz...

Randy.
You MUST try the discontinued Boss MZ-2 then. It is maybe unintentionally close to Randy's sound on that album, even has several modes with the doubling effect and chorus.

Cool.
I've owned about three and just end up playing Husker Du stuff on them, 'Pink turns to Blue'...

Not my work. All credit to Melx of HCFX. He built one for himself and one for me. He also built my Bluesbreaker MK 1 which is totally brilliant.

Yep. But i also have to by a gibson (hate) and a Marshall (to expensive). I have a Peavy amplifier and a Fender mustang guitar.
I like the mxr +. And the boss md. No plans for more distortion pedals.
Check out my song No Mans Land in Whore Thread.

Would like an Mxr version at some point after hearing Rowland S Howard used one. To me it sounds like hes using one here:

I now have that'un. It was a main stay on my Troupe de Bacchus board but that's long finished now. Must dig it out and stick it in front of the Matamp see what it does.
I love the Grumbly Wolf. It's a brilliant distortion pedal in it's own right then you flick the switch for all sorts of craziness.

Theres a little trimpot in the inside to adjust the frequency of the ring mod.
Just incase you didn't know this.

Not necessarily true, I don't think there's that much Gibson/Marshall exclusivity in Randy's sound (in any case, certainly not in an age when half the amps/guitars out there are based on stuff by those two brands or their sounds). An HH Mustang with a TOM and a Peavey amp are close enough, I think what Fran's saying is that the MZ-2 also has other effects Randy used on certain modes so that you could kind of have his signal chain with a single stomp if need be, like the sound of his entire rig on certain solos or riffs.

I like Randy Rhoads a great deal but never thought his tone that good. Kinda generic. It's his playing that sounded so impressive.

I have the Dist.+ handwired re-issue. Re: its output, as discussed previously in thread: the ouput on mine seems low compared to other dirt pedals I have. I still think it's great sounding pedal though. I like it!
