Jazz Basses dwarf Jazzmasters as well, but I feel ya, I couldn't find a comparison pic of one with a P/J bass either. I don't get why you're figuring techs, books and everything else except you and some jpegs are full of shit while not receptive to the idea that what looks like one section of a Mustang bass split pickup, along with what is obviously an entirely new 3-string section made specifically for this guitar, absolutely has to be identical to all the other dimensions of a Mustang bass pickup. It could be wider in terms of nut-to-bridge distance: a fatter coil, which would figure for the error in your Photomath.

I'm not trying to be combative but it's all visual, man. The neck on Bass Vs is really short, you already said earlier the body must be huge because of something to do with the length of the neck. You've never seen a neck like this on a bass, and you've never seen a Fender bass hunch it's shoulders up to let that tiny neck perch there (though you have seen big looong cutaways to provide proper strap button balance while letting a 20 fret neck well into the body shape). The neck is also wide as fuck but the string spacing is narrower than almost any other Fender bass. There are a million optical illusion things going on with this guitar to someone who loves Stang basses and/or has never seen one IRL, it's way too hard to eyeball.

They appear similar length on the British JPJstick system of measurement

I WAS OFF BY 4 INCHES! Shiiiiiiiit. Ok The neck is 20.5" from the nut to the bottom. The headstock is 10.5" from the nut to the top. Working on a template now. A cool guy on reverb measured his for me. (Mike Samos/Empire Guitars)

Have you looked at the Swinger template? That should show you the pickup rout size and where it's placed in relation to the neck pocket.

No, the Swinger template doesn't have the Bass V pickup rout on it. I guess I could pop the lid and measure if you're interested.

So you're saying Paul_ was right all along?

I've played one and there's no way it's anything like 38", I'm going from memory but 34" sounds about right.

Here's a quick one. That green represents 20.5" If someone wants to make a proper template please do so. I need to get some poster board to finish it in person. BUT We have a bass v template guys! Yay finally lmao.

Move the bridge way up and use a regular bass neck if you're not tuning with a high B, because you'd not be able to play Undress for Success which is the best bassline.

If I built one it will look like this. Lol. I have someone who can build the neck. The hardest thing would be the pickups. They're smaller than mustang bass pickups.

Just use a seven string guitar pickup, maybe?

I was thinking maybe just a five string bass pup and cover it up. I don't know. I can get pickups made. It's just the covers that are the hard part.

ayy you could use the two p-bass pickups next to each other instead of overlapping and staggered.

I vote Jaguar Bass V Precision pickup under a big sexy chrome cover. It'll be your little secret, but deliver a more authentic Bass V sound than whatever shortbustang pickup you source from dubious or custom avenues.

Another thing I can't really get is a bridge cover. They don't make any five string bass covers.

No "F" stamp but the last one on this page supposedly fits 5 string basses.

Might be worth asking over on TalkBass?

I read about that. It's a bit long though. Would it be possible to cut it down?
