I like the idea of a telecaster, but not actually owning one. I've had 2 in my time, one got smashed, the other I sold on. Just couldn't get the right fit with it.

Aww man, I was hoping liking a tele would make me uncool and therefore cool. Well there are plenty of other things that make me uncool, so I am still doing stuff right.

I'd been playing Jazzmasters for years, but I when I was looking to sell one of them a guy offered to swap it for a US Standard Tele - i've been using it as my main guitar ever since. It's clunky, heavy, uncomfortable to play - but I just love the sound it makes. It has a lovely full bottom end the my strat and jazzy can't match. I fitted a Dimarzio Pre-B1 pickup in teh bridge and it sounds ace, not think and wimpy at all. I also have a Twang King in the neck which gives a lovely lead tone when using my Fredric Golden Eagle.

This thread got me going a bit for another project.
There are some decent looking Thinline Tele knock-offs on ebay, might be a good base for a decent neck and pup upgrade...

I've recently had a thing for Tele's. I got one of these from guitar fetish. The thing actually plays really well. Replaced the neck pickup with one of those Lil Puncher XL's they sell and reconfigured the 3 way switch for Neck full-Neck coil tap-bridge full and it sounds really good. The head stocks are FUGLY though. decided to cut the weird tip growth off and paint it matching. Overall for under $250 i got a sweet guitar.

THE PEOPLE'S CHAMP

Okay I got:

Affinity body in black
Affinity body in blue
white pickguard
2 non-string bridges
Affinity neck (rosewood)
GFS '60-something PROFESSIONAL SERIES neck pickup
Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder for strat goop-glued onto a brass tele pickup plate
All you can eat potentiometers INCLUDING PUSH PULL 500k
some TKL 3-way switch that's all bent

I'm thinking the push/pull should be straight to jack vs. pots but series/parallol might sond kool?

Crikey, this Mahogany double bound Custom looks tempting as well.
Someone on TDPRI bought one and said it was decent.

Dammit, the Thinline or the Custom? Shall I?

I love my tele, it's pretty much my go-to guitar for gigs. It's stable, reliable and sound fucking amazing.

Series/parallel works BUT... the selector is backwards, I accidentally wired the volume knob up to bypass it because I was in a hurry, the grounding buzz is 2much2handle because the guitar has 10 km of wire in it now, and the neck pickup is TOTALLY LAME. Series and bridge position sound great tho.

So basically, I'm going to gut the whole thing and go Esquire on it. One knob.

UGH GFS didn't have any blank plates in chrome. So... I ordered a strat-pickup cut pickguard and will pop in a Bill Lawrence pickup I've had sitting around. That should be hot enough to match up to the GHETTO POUNDER.
