jm/jag for me. tried all those trems and they sucked. jazzy trem is so smooth and doesnt throw me out of tune. also makes everything sound so pretty rather than just wonky like the strat trem.

Bronco all the way. It's subtle though, maybe like a jazzmaster with less friction?
Though, now I'm not 14 anymore and the internet is a thing these days (to help me sut it up) part of me wants to exorcise the strat trem demons from the 1990s.
I'm sure if I ever gat a strat and set the trem up, the novelty will last for all of 4.5 seconds.
Not really a trem user; too busy with other shit to bother really.

Just a joke, but essentially "they're not the same thing at all so it's pointless to compare them". The Jag trem may not go out as tune as readily as the Strat one primarily due to the fact that it has something like 1/6th as much vibrato range or adjustability and is intended for an entirely different era/style of reverb handlin' (just pointing this out while I've got you "Jags only work with heavy strings" types here, not that I've ever found that to be the case).

Jag/JM units are indeed great fun and work very well for the type of vibrato tailpiece they are (I certainly prefer them to Bigsbys any day of the week), but Strat trems are infinitely more impressive/complex in design and fit to the guitar, and were the launching point for the majority of all electric guitar innovations to follow, both in popular styles of playing and any new ubiquitous trems that were subsequently developed.

It's obviously a personal preference thread and not a tuning stability one anyway, or else Floyd (locking Strat trem) would be winning.

jag trems are easier to set up, get to tune, keep in tune, alt tune, and to manage if you break a string. each aspect is easier. easier easier easier.

most strats get hardtailed or 5 springs for a reason.

Yes... And that reason is most folk don't spend the time learning how to set them up properly.

If I had to choose one, I would go Bronco. Very responsive and it's the easiest for me to work while playing.

After the Bronco, I would go JM/Jaguar and then Mustang.

I want to get a reverb handle for my Coronado II to see how I like it.

i'd say i've spent a reasonable amount of time, but i also alt tune, which lots of people do. a strat trem is fine in a perfectly robust closed setup, i.e. no alt tunings, no risk of string slippage, tuning problems, any snagging under the sun, which most people can't be arsed or are unable to get right in a pinch. you can bark on about people needing to know how to set those perfect conditions up, but shit happens, and a jag trem will let you deal with that stuff better on the fly.

also, doog is probably the most well versed in this sort of thing and he's on my side, so i'm pulling the doog card on you. i think that puts an end to it...

I reckon I'm better at setting trems up than Doog.

(Terrible at hearing tuning nuances, mind, but that's why I bend all notes).

I've never played a guitar that Doog has set up, but he'd have to be really outstandingly good to be noticeably better than me.

I'm really not a trem user, and mostly would use the Mustang trem without a bar but just gentle wobble with my hand.
I do like a well set up Strat trem though (which I can also do - sounds like it may be the only thing I can do better than Doog on the guitar

) as well as the Jag trem. Never tried a Bigsby, but I'd like to.
