That CP of yours has got a 12" radius neck Rob.

I've just realised it was my Baja that was 9.5 not the strat!! Well, it's still a nice neck

I have an American Standard that I got in 1998, I really like the feel and the sound with a SD Quarter Pounder in the bridge. I haven't really played many strats to compare it too though. I have played a CV 60's and didn't really like the neck, pale compared to my strat and the guitar felt alot cheaper - I was dissapointed having a CV Tele I expected a bit more from the strat.

Yeah the CVs are good for the ££ and way better finished than previous Squiers. When you A/B them with their pricier counterparts they really don't compare. Considering we're at a place now where I've seen Am Standards going for as low as £450 preowned they're not really an option for me. Now that you can pick up a CV for around the £100 mark second hand they're still a great option for a first guitar or if you fancy trying a particular model but don't want to break the bank.

A new guitar friend of mine got one of those Am Standard ash Teles for £430 locally 2weeks ago. I guess the market is in a bit of a trough at the moment.

I've seen a Mexican 60s for sale for £300 so I'm going to try that. If that's not for me I think I'm going to Hold off for a rosewood board Am Standard.

I'd definitely keep an eye out for a 60s Classic Player (not 60s Classic) in Sonic Blue. Has custom shop pickups, 9.5 radius, slightly larger but not jumbo frets, and is just an all round great guitar.

A straight up 60s Classic (not Classic Player) has the 7.25 radius.

Really like the look of that Classic Player (Sonic Blue, Mint, Rosewood) but was put off by the specs. Fender website says it's 12" radius?

It's 12" but as long as it plays well that's all that matters. I've been playing Les Pauls lately so I'm happy with the flatter radius as long as the neck shape is right.

Absolutely. I generally prefer 7.25" but 9.5" is also fine. Like you say, always worth giving a neck a go though as there are other things beyond radius that affect how it feels and plays.

The thing I can't get past on the American Standards is the 2 point tremolo. I don't like how it feels or how it sounds. It seems to change the sustain and make it more trebly in a bad way, I can't describe it better.

A two post trem looks wrong aesthetically to me.

Thought the one on the CP60s worked great, and didn't mind the look, but it's narrower string spacing than the trad six screw.

In terms of function is great, it just annoyed me that it didn't look right. It's one of mine and nickd's projects to fit a six screw to it

Agreed with the aesthetics of a two pivot trem, it just doesn't look right.

I'm not a huge fan of the Standard. The American Special, to me, is much better for less money. First off, big headstock on the Special. Second of all, vintage bridge. To me, that's kind of the soul of the Strat. It's not the best bridge in the world, but it makes a Strat. Not only that, if down the line you want to start upgrading your American Standard bridge, your options are much limited. And for less money? I think the Special is the way to go. Unless you can find a nice MIM higher end model like the Classic 60s or 50s (not Player) series, which are very impressive.
