It's a really well-considered bit of kit:

The TRIO+ has an FX loop, so it can use your unaffected guitar as a signal to guide the rhythm section, but allowing your buttrock distortion, phaser and hall reverb pedals to always be on, bay-beh.

There's also a 2-stage 'FX' button which adds a built-in 'rhythm' or 'lead' sound (suited to the Style you have selected) to your guitar signal. In truth, the distorted sounds are terrible, but the compressions, 'verbs etc. are fine. Best just stick a few pedals in the FX Loop and forget about that feature, tbh.

Output-wise, it's got a HEADPHONE out, which gives you a mix of the band and cab-simulated guitar out, plus any FX Loop or 'FX' button effects you're adding in. It may be even be a stereo drum mix, I forget.

There's also AMP and LINE outputs. The AMP out is tweaked to add more highs and lows to the bass and drums, to suit midrangey guitar amps. Obviously, you really need to run this into a clean guitar amp to make it not sound crummy.

The LINE output is untweaked, and suits going into a PA etc. - ideal if you add an amp-sim kinda pedal to the FX Loop. This is what I do at home, plugged into my audio interface.

The beauty part is using the LINE and AMP outputs together: the TRIO does some internal switching, and the guitar signal (and guitar looper) goes to the AMP output, but the drums-bass backing go to the LINE out. That way, you could use your dirty 100w stack for only your guitar, but the backing band goes to the PA.

Looks like it's a great piece of kit. I've been looking for a looper anyway for playing ON MY OWN and was wondering if it's worth ponying up more for something like this when I'm principally going to be using it to write songs or practice lead parts or whatever, and this seems like it would be a more fun or immersive way to do that

So that's the only other question really - is it worth the coin in your opinion?

You're welcome, mate; I think it's something that needs a good overview to show the real value of the unit.

I've owned a few looping pedals now, and this definitely beats 'em all, in terms of fun and overall 'usefulness'. It can do 'plain ol looper' stuff, but you have all that extra functionality.

The fact you can sequence multiple 'section' for your 'song', i.e. play this verse loop twice, then the chorus twice, then the verse once, then the bridge etc. makes it really fun for recreating songs, or just plain ol' writing. It'll also click you in to each new section, so you can keep the tempo steady.

It's a great practise tool, and as it has an (included) micro SD card to store up to 12 'songs' (sequenced parts AND guitar loops), you can revisit and build on ideas. You CAN'T export these to a DAW or anything, but I feel this isn't a big deal; it's a tool for playing, not real 'recording'.

The METAL settings can get suitably 'breakneck speed hardcore', and there's an ALT TIME button that does half/double-time shit.

So I got one on ebay and I've been loving it. I've been PLAYING WITH MYSELF all morning

My only WTF so far is that the FX Send is on the left and the Return on the Right.

That makes no sense to me. I would have thought it would make more sense to have the send on the right and return on the left so you could put the trio below or above your line of FX pedals in a traditional order without having crossing/excessively long patch cables.

Boss LS-2s are like that too. Never really thought about it but you're right, it would surely make more sense to have them reversed?

Same! I guess maybe they expect you to use it like this, at the end of your chain?

I've not had a looped before and after taking a while to get ok at creating loops with clean end points it's a great tool

Everything seems really well thought out like the count in stuff as well as tempo matching parts, punch in and out etc

I imagine people use this as a live busking tool a lot
