Another change of plans. The rail pickup looks like it might be a tad too tall so I am going to go with a set of lace pickups. (Red bridge and Blue neck.) I had a Mustang with the set and enjoyed it. I like how they have higher output, but aren't too noisy.

I plan to pick up an older Ovation electric at some point. They appeal to me on some strange level. There is one on my local craigslist but the seller is still a few hundred too high. It's been on there for a long time.

Ovation electrics were like the PRS of the day. Superb construction, modern high end hardware and electronics at the expense of not borrowing enough aesthetics from classic designs and looking kinda wank.
As much as I looooove my Ovation Tornado, I probably wouldn't like the original pickups if I had gotten to try them. The Viper was the best tele I'd owned construction wise but the pickups were so hot for single coils they kinda sucked for anything besides dadrock. But at the time I guess that's what it was made for.

Pickups came in and the other electronics. Trying to decide if I should do the metal knobs (vintage, but not the ones this would usually have) or the new black bell ones. I might do the soldering tonight. Feeling kind of lazy. LOL Using the "the pickguard isn't done yet, so I could just wait" excuse to be lazy even though I don't need the guard on it to do all the wiring.....

Black bells or hats. Metal looks weird but then again so so those pickups.
If I'm being honest I don't understand this build at all and it kind of makes me sad aesthetically but as long as you're happy at least you're not drilling holes in it or anything

My internet went out. (Using cell phone.) As a result, I did my wiring work after all. Everything seems good. The wiring ended up interesting. Here is how it works.
From the mono out jack, everything works as usual. Dual volumes and dual tones.
From the stereo out jack, if I have the toggle in the middle, I get both pickups with both tone controls and volumes. If the toggle is set to neck or bridge, I only get the bridge pickup with tone control.
That means if I have it set to the neck, I could run two cables out and have the neck pickup to one amp from mono and the bridge out to a different amp. While they are running, if I switch to both, it would put both pickups to both amps.
Kind of quirky and kind of cool.

Aesthetically it will be similar to this.
Would have loved buckers but I don't want to modify the body. This way if I felt like dropping $500 to get a new guard and stock pickups, I could make it stock.
I love the feel of the neck and body shape. I also like lace blues and reds. I felt better about using something I knew I liked the sound of over gambling on something I haven't ever heard and cost ten times the price. (And $200 more than the whole guitar cost.)

Pickguard came in so I got it all put together. Looks pretty great and sounds great too. The 500k pots work well with the lace pickups. Brightens them up, but not overly so. The black knobs fit the look really well. Very happy with how this plays and feels. It has 11's on it currently.

Scott (the guy doing the guard) has been pretty swamped with guitar builds and his son's band.
