GAWD, I didn't realise there were so many variations of the smaller amps; spent a few hour scoping it all out.
AC10 still seems most likely given it's really just for home (and soon to be a shared one at that), so wattage and beefy 12" speakers aren't necessary/desired. I don't need a 'clean' channel when the single Top Boost style channel can be cleaned-up enough. Just need to figure out which one of these internal monologues is gonna win:
"ooh, just get the cheap AC4 one, or just leave it; my amp sim sounds plenty good"
"I've just got a raise, am moving somewhere cheaper and have left a longterm relationship so should probably treat myself, isn't that what Beyonce would say?"
All aboard the HMS Overthink Everything!

Don't even consider this, the AC4 is one of of the worst sounding amplifiers I've ever played through. My friend used to have one that I'd use for rehearsing, it was terrible.Doog wrote:"ooh, just get the cheap AC4 one, or just leave it; my amp sim sounds plenty good"
It sounds like you want the AC15. As someone who's ended up buying/selling a fair few amps, go with the amplifier you really want, otherwise you'll just end up regretting it. Also the normal channel on a vox amp is part of what makes them sound special.
AC15s and 30s (remember when I first joined this forum I had an AC30) sound great loud and quiet.

I totally agree with this, an AC30 or an AC15 can sound good at bedroom levels, ITS CLASS A MAN!Gabriel wrote:Don't even consider this, the AC4 is one of of the worst sounding amplifiers I've ever played through. Yep I agree, the AC15 is better and quieter at home. It can still be cranked up and the tone cut is so useful.singlepup wrote:This. Without a second thought. Buy the best, buy it once. My DRRI does bedroom levels and gig levels just fine, and it's pure quality. AC15 is the Vox equivalent.benecol wrote:And I say get the AC15, because it's the best one and still sounds great quiet.
BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE LAD.
I still love my AC10- its lighter and it's better for lugging around to band practices. The AC15 is a better amp though.
I found the AC4 to be shit- even the 12 inch speaker version was a whole lot of meh.
lolz I wasn't going to, the cheap price wasn't enough to get over the squareness and the single tone control. And the fugly looks.Gabriel wrote:Don't even consider this, the AC4 is one of of the worst sounding amplifiers I've ever played through. Gonna have to pencil in a trip to Wunjo to compare the 10 and 15 then I guess. Who needs money and space when you've got CHIME
