Thanks all - yeah the holes and cracks in the heel were bad, two of the neck screws were just turning freely (and weren't original so I swapped them out with a couple I had kicking around). I didn't take a pic of the repaired state, sorry, but I used one of those multitool flush cut blades followed by a chisel to cut the dowels down. The neck was quite happy to sit in the pocket so I simply tightened the "good" screws, set the right-sized drill bit to the length of the other screws and drilled down through the plate, using the body hole as a guide. No issues doing it up and it was very close to straight - the space-adjust bridge was able to move the saddles to the side slightly! As I thought the wound G string made the whole set intonate close to spot-on, altho I had to bend the posts back slightly.
Not sure about the stripes, they don't look off to me, so we should get along just fine!
