i'm kind of at a toss up between a cp jazzmaster or a blacktop jazzmaster. with the blacktop i'm missing the rhythm circuit where as with the cp i'll be wanting to toss a humbucker in the bridge position.

no where around here has the blacktops in stock yet, so its a tough call.. i really liked the sonic youth guitars but they are about a grand out of my price range.

I'd say CP because the pickups are supposed to be pretty hot and chunky... apart from that you get the rhythm circuit just in case, a nice tort guard and a trem lock. You can always change the bridge unit later and sell the stock one to Bizzaro Serfx from the mirror universe who bought a Blacktop despite his hatred of bridge buckers. Just don't talk to him too long or you'll tear the space-time continuum.

It looks quite a bit better in video form than in fender photo form. If I wasn't jonesing after another jm, I'd probably do that and swap out the bridge pup.

Still can't get down with that humbucker.

the difference between the neck and the bridge pickup was a bit jarring on the clean channel i thought, but i suppose that's to be expected. sounded ok with a bit of dirt.

Yeah the usual, maybe lowering the height of the bridge pup could balance things up better.

I'm not digging any of these.

I think it was a really smart move though by Fender, cause they're so affordable some might be able to overlook what they don't like, and for others these are perfect.

If they're successful and make a bunch, these things could be stupid cheap on the used market and that's kind of cool.

Its cool they are perhaps targeting a section of the market that can't go that extra mile for other models but i personally dont like them either. There is also the chance that if these do saturate the second hand market the days of snagging a vintage reissue for a bargain will be gone.

It will be interesting to see if any high profile players go for these, could be the making of them. Someone like McFly using the Jazzmaster would be cool

I like the back to basics vibe of these, being a Telecaster kind of guy Iâ€™ve always been put off the Jag and Jazzmaster by all the extra switches and tone controls. So these are my kind of thing.

bizaro serfx would probably also be weirded out by the fact that i'll probably refinish the thing and spray bomb somthing stupid on it like "noize" or something (kinda like what i had our old pal Aen do with the cp jag hh i bought from him..)

Anyone in the States seen the Blacktop Jazzmaster at a GC yet? Returned my CV 50s Tele and am considering options for replacing it (might go with MIM Tele--exciting, I know). GC's site doesn't show any of their stores having this in stock, but their website isn't always accurate.
