It would intresting to see the differences between the Chuck Collins Perc and the Fredric one. I've only compared mine to the one Reece has.
He said mine had more gain but his is louder because the saltbooster output stage (I think thats what it is).

Check this guy's description of one of Tim's HPs. He seems to think it sounds the same as a Chuck Collins', but then he could be saying that to increase his chances of a sale. I for one know that they sound awesome and couldn't give a monkeys if mine sounds like the real thing or not.

Heya Mark, thanks very much for the testimonial. It really means alot to me that you've taken the time to put down in words what the pedal does for you. I'll definately add this to my site at the next update. I'll link your band too (assume you've a myspace?) I wonder how much that HP will go for. They really should sound identical to the Collins HP now- I use the same NOS transistors and diodes, and most of the same capacitors too.

Lol. I do love the William Blake image, but it was their idea, as was the really effective yellow/black colour scheme. Essentially it's a fancypants A/B pedal, with an opamp booster on the A channel, Dist+ with a tone control and a switchable green ringer on the B channel. The outputs can go to two different amps, or mixed back together to go to one amp.

Fredric Effects WPB-1 (did you see what I did there?) Wolf Puppet Boost

It's a straight LPB-1 clone in the normal setting, a slightly tamed Screaming Bird in the treble setting (I can't stand how harsh the stock SB is) and a bass-guitar-friendly boost in the bass setting, which lets all yer bass frequencies through. I'm limiting this to four only as it was mainly an exercise in figuring out rotary switches and hand-drawing pcbs for that old-school EH look. Also, Mike and Aen make LPB-variants so there's no need for me to do the same.

It's got these awesome expensive knobs from Musicding too.

Professionally painted and screen-printed enclosure samples. Thoughts?

They look good, but are they really that much better than if you used a similar approach to me (clear adhesive labels)?

Wouldn't it be best to use this kind of technology to create an effect you can't with regular techniques?

It's more an issue of consistency. Painting a batch of ten or so, there'd be one or two that in the painting or clearcoating I just wasn't happy with- minor blems and drips. Occasionally there'd be an actual screw-up and I'd have to strip and restart from the beginning. The finish on these samples (they're painted, but the final ones will be powdercoated) is incredibly tough and consistent. It doesn't compare to the Halfords primer-colour-clear route, especially since I'm getting 100 done.

I've a few issues with the clear label approach too. Since I stopped using Lazertran, which was good because it actually degraded and bonded with the laquer, I've not been too happy with the inkjet solutions. The sticky stuff can get mucky round the edges, and is too easy to peel off. The waterslide stuff looks much better than the Lazertran and takes a clearcoat very well, but it does not bond to the paint- nick it and the whole decal can peel right off. The last batch of pedals I made with this I mixed some pva and stuck the decal on. This improved the adhesion a bit.

I am quite tempted to make black pedals with white screening (something that's difficult with decals), but that's for the next batch.

Fair enough, I know I'll never be able to compete with the big boys on aesthetics and finish quality so I stay with my homebrew approach.

Paint drips and chips, I don't try to fix it - it adds character. The way it sounds and holds together "on the road" is what matters to me.

i have a growing issue with edwardian script ITC. it's fucking everywhere. which is unfortunate for me since i've used it loads.

It's Kunstler Script, akshully. Although they are quite similar. I just dig the script-logo MXR pedals. The other font is Bayer.

I built one just now using the beige sample. I like how they painted the inside too.
