I honestly believe Fender don't get their market for offsets and shortscales (the 'indie arty' lot if you want to generalise terribly). It's the equivelent of your tragically unhip uncle thinking he being on your your level by sagging his brown courdorys and throwing up some gang signs.
If i could link to youtube at work I'd post the Mary Whitehouse Experience 'embarrassing dad... "HAI WHAT'S THIS, IT'S GOT A GOOD BEAT"
Why the cock would Fender care about an incredibly niche market like us? They're trying to sell guitars, not please a few forum nerds. If they want to do that then they feel they have to give things a little wider appeal. There have been a shit-ton of Fender shortscales released over the last few years. Unlike 12 years ago when I was learning and had the Kurdtz bad, I can just walk into a guitar shop and lay down £250-£300 for AN ACTUAL JAGUAR.
Europeeps: on Thomann now for £642/£646 with the painted headstock.
Despite what Captain Aesthetics has said above, I can't get over the fat-arsed look the JM pickup gives it. I live in hope that Fender unfuck it sometime in the future.
there's no reason a VI should be over a grand, except they know a few niche players will cough up for it. if they paid no attention to forum nerds they wouldn't have reissued this, or the jaguars, etc, etc.
