Dude, I bought 2 jags... the jap you paosted and a MIM brand new for 459+ tax.....
SCORE.... That, the classic vibe tele, a new breedlove, and a blackstar HT-5 amp. I am now officially recovered from the " need to sell gear to buy a house" period of my life.

well, my bank got closed down by the FDIC the day befoer I was closing on a house so I had to do a kind of cleaning house type thing. I sold my drum kit, 4 guitars, my PA, both my amps, and what was left of my pedal board to meet the down payment as my money was tied up in the bank closing and we had to close ASAP or the loan program we were using was going bye bye. So, I sold about 4K in stuff in like 2-3 days. No big deal as I was ready for a change, but I went 2-3 months without a guitar at all... Now I am in recovery mode. I still need a cheap bass and to start redoing a PA system as at the time I had a 12K watt PA system with 4 15" mains, 4 12" monitors (all JBL) and 2 18" subs.... But I am happy with the stuff I have now. Also I will probably not keep both jags. I ordered the LPB MIJ one and then cam across the MIM one new at guitar center for 459 (usually sells for 799 but it was a pre-xmas special) I wills ee which I like better after theya re both really set up and go from there....

Is that an Ovation?

Yes it is
68 Ovation Tornado. It had buckers in it when I got it, which I changed to GFS Brooklyns.
I'm surprised you haven't seen it before, I've only posted pictures of it god knows how many times.

I felt kind of silly asking, because it some how felt like something I should know. It's nice. Why don't Ovation make stuff like that any more instead of plastic acoustcs?

God only knows, they made these from 68 through the mid 70s. They were making solid body electrics through the 80s that I know of and only recently got back into the market with the VXT (which is really quite overpriced shit if you ask me).
The ovation has THE LOWEST action I've ever played on a guitar that doesn't buzz out. Frets are tiny, neck is comfortable to me and glossy/tinted. The fretboard is Brazilian rosewood. The guitar has definitely seen its share of use and abuse throughout the years but it's ROCK SOLID.
My guess is just that the 70's market got flooded with Japanese gibson copies and they couldn't sell them cheap enough.

Makes sense. I suppose they sort of carved out a niche for themselves in the acoustic market, and it's probably a good bit more dificult trying to find that sort of identity in the solid body market, particularly when, as you say, anybody with a factory in the Far East can turn out something as good as what you're doing in no time at all.

The dano just came yesterday, I bought it from Bassintom. I've wanted one for a while and I love it.
Lauren has a Dano Convertible, I could've sworn she posted a pic in this thread but I don't see it so apparently not. My pictures of it are on my old hard drive, but I made a demo video before I gave it to her

It's not the bright purple sparkle they made, it's a more deep finish, and has some blue in it as well, kind of like deep indigo sparkle. It looks black most of the time since it only really reflects direct light.

nick, is that last part from that really long pharm. commercial?
it sounds just like it. brittany always make fun of this one commercial because it plays this guitar lick OVER AND OVER for like way too long. its like a family guy joke, just when you think its over its goes right back into some other fine details.
anyway, playing sounds great, cool guitar too. just thought id let you know i got a chuckle before i gotta go to work this morning.

you destroyed my guitar skills that i've amassed in like 15 years of playing in just the first like 5 seconds of blackbird...lol...to be fair, i've spent most of the 15 years playing bass primarly, but still...nice dude...wish it were plugged in to get some idea of that tone too...still, you gotta love danos for just being their own funkyselves...and it did have a tits mcgee acoustic tone really too.

Unfortunately that guitar's 1500 miles from me right now, and Lauren doesn't have an amp at her place. Otherwise I'd have made an updated demo by now plugged in. I have played it plugged in before, most recently I used it on the two songs that Shadow posted of our last meetup a few months back. There's also a few other videos of dano convertibles out there on the 'tube.
