Obviously I feel compelled to buy every guitar I see. I deal with it. But since 1977 I wanted a Jazzmaster (like Elvis). When I first started fixing them I stumbled across a mint CIJ burst for $500. Sadly, I think I didn't like it because it wasn't vintage and sold it. It's the elusive Fender for me now. I don't want a Strat--I want a jizz. I wonder if I could warm up to this one. It has a real appeal. I would want to beat it up a little.

Just having another look at this beauty and found the squier site has now merged with the fender one. Looks cool. This tele is also pretty interesting, loads of tone options out of this: http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0301015503

looking at the prices i imagine this might kill the blacktop (unless you want it to say fender on the headstock...)

The Blacktop was never a Fender anyway, in fact, quite a few new Fenders have never been Fenders. Now then.

I mostly agree with this, Though this guitar really tempts me. I would rather have the actual Fender version, but this one might be close enough.

I was just on the Squier portion of the Fender site and when I clicked under Jazzmaster, the VM didn't show up and the VM Jaguar was nowhere to be found, either. Not interested in either one, but thought that was sort of odd.

I was joking.
We did a video the other week, i used my Squier Tele Deluxe. The video guy made a comment about avoiding getting my headstock in the video "because its only a Squier". ROFFLEZ. The Hamsters anyone? One of the longest hard gigging bands ever from the UK and they use Squier.
I swear i'll end up using a Spongebob Strat or something because the snobbery with gear winds me up something chronic just lately.

I knew you were joking about squire, but I wasn't sure about the blacktop as everyone seems to have a real downer on them.

the justification is that it looks so peachy. i'm in a similar boat mike, after I go through other items on my want list I might just take a look at these but one thing is for definite and that is I will be seeking out one of these to play in a shop as soon as they are released

Okay, I'm a noob at TOMs on Jazzmasters, but how does this not break all the strings every time you use the wangbar? Is there a roller bridge or something that I can't make out?

This colour combination I'm a little 'meh' on. But then all my guitars seem to be black, or red, or blackred burst.

Les Pauls and other Gibsons have been using regular TOMs with Bigsbys for years. Not that it does the strings any favours, of course.

Just buy a roller bridge and drop it in. Simples.

The flatish break angle seems to be the magic.

I've honestly never broken a string across the bridge of my TOM's Jazzmaster, even with some agressive wobbling. It's still partially a bit of a mystery to me though: With the 11-46 sets I almost always string up, it's almost weird to see how the downforce tension is strong enough so that the entire bridge actually rocks more than there is any string slippage(!), but is never a cause for string breakage. I imagine roller bridge could probably work, but I've never been a fan of them on other guitars and would probably fear unnecessary rattling.

As on my CIJ Jag back in SoCal, I dig Mustang saddles for being deep enough to hold fairly well without the strings jumping too much, but the grooved TOM saddles on the Jazzmaster actually do the trick really well. The low E will only jump when hit super hard, the TOM no doubt gives the guitar some added sustain, and with the snap and bang from the 25.5" scale I can't imagine a buzzstop being necessary.

Definitely on the want list. Must sell some stuff first.

Same with my TOM on the JS.
Does'nt Mascis use roller saddles or did i imagine that?

I've been using a roller bridge on my Jag for a while now, no rattles at all. String tension takes care of that. I'm even using a relatively light guage at the moment, 10-52s.
