I will try and take one on Friday or something for you, it looks just the same except FETs are installed (the wrong ones in some places obviously), a couple more wires, and I've pulled the FAC from the circuit by soldering the wire to the centre tap to the 1 output to remove that from the debug.

Cheers, the schematic itself took about four iterations, firstly to get it accurate and secondly to orientate in a more attractive and readable way. I don't see how i'm going to debug this complex circuit without it to be honest.

Yea, that's what I was wondering, the wires... I could tell by the other pic that you were missing a few...

If I were you, after the j201s come in, ya know, rebias and all that... Jus, make sure everything is goin' where it's supposed to, nothin's grounded, they're all facin' the right way (those that matter) and no cold solders... yadda yadaa, anything else is mind bottling!

I bought a new soldering iron, so yes. The one I had previously was the PoS one that came free with an "electricians tool kit" i got for £10/$20.

The one I replaced it with is no big shakes, but it works at least.

I'm going to start building Boosters this weekend hopefully, the Orange Peel is going on the back burner until I receive the J201s from OLC.

ah okay, right on. i think you would like the no clean lead free solder better than the RA solder, it seems to work alot more like tin lead solder, and its clean. i recommend tryin it out.

I have no idea what solder I have, I just bought the reasonably expensive stuff from Maplin and Musikding.de, I have no time for learning about stuff.

i couldnt find the solder on the site (only some stuff that looked like it was regular tin lead, and a kit) but it should say on the solder bobbin RA, RMA, No Clean, or Water Soluble.

they all cost the same, but with no clean, you wont be fucking up tips. but its up to you obviously, just tryin to help.

Technically you should be able to get lead tin solder somewhere because of the rules that say you can use like to like components for repair. Apparently that means the solder too. Also the militry still use lead solder.

yeah you can still use it and buy it, you just cant have lead in anything new that is being imported into europe, or new things manufactured for resale in europe. so if mike wanted to use tin lead solder, he can.

It's Alive!

I got the J201s from Mark at OLC who kindly sent them as soon as I emailed them about them being missing. I installed them and biased the transistors, the MOSFET in stage one is still a tricky-dicky to get at 4.5V but the other two are pretty easy to get in there. I plugged the thing in expecting to get no sound before and BAM - distorted huge burble noises! Well it's a step forward. Turned out it was just that the volume and gain were wide open (lot of output on this pedal btw) without a guitar connected.

When I plugged and messed with the controls everything seems to work. Need to re-add the FAC control I removed when I was debugging but I'm pretty damn chuffed, first attempt and it basically just works. Gonna hopefully finish this up over the weekend and make a demo of it.

Sweet. You thought about how you're going to finish the casing?

I'll probably paint it up, definitely.

I'm going to finish the FAC switch this weekend and probably make a demo of it on bank holiday Monday along with the finished Booster because I'm a sad twat with a Webcam and an SM57, but no friends or life.

After that I'll probably drop the circuit out of it and start finishing it. I'm going to use the booster cases I fucked up to learn how to paint metal boxes. I figure some sanding, then primer and some painting and then lacquer should do it. Or something. I'll get some paint from Halfords today. ORANGE Paint.

I'm gonna track down some orange Plastikote for my Chunky Cheese, hopefully my experience and knowledged gained since the last time I used Plastic Kote should result in better results than the messy mess that was my old Strat body.. i.e. "more than one coat, and try actually sanding it, you dolt".

I got Primer, Orange VW Paint and Lacquer this lunchtime.

I'm going to just try sanding, 2 coats of primer, 3 of colour and 4 Lacquer on one of the fucked Booster boxes over the weekend if possible. See how it goes.
