After this is done, and presuming it is a successful project. I may well be picking your brains on the neck thing rob. I want to be the UK Aug, like Cowy said.robert(original) wrote:there is a rather easy way of making a neck, and you might like the feel of it cuz it turns out rather slim and flat from 1st-12th feeling the same.

take a peice of wood, any thickness 7/8th's- 1 inch is the usually fender thickness(i think, its been a long long day)
take the back to a table router and take off enough wood on the back to your taste(my jag is like 16mms at the first fret, most strats are 18mms or so, once you have done that, do the basice same to where the headstock is.
once you have that you will have a piece of wood that looks like this.
__---------------=
then take a roud over bit, and roundover the sides.
thus you have created a shredders dream guitar,
slim all the way thru, flat on the back and cheap feeling(IMO)

Things have move on a little more. I've applied the Danish Oil and the first coat of BriWax, so this is pretty much the colour it will be. Extra coats will just give it more shine and a harder surface.
I've mock put it together with the parts i have (still waiting for pots, switches, etc.) and i've got mixed feelings on it at the moment. The finish is quite light for Mahogany and it has a 'Yamaha Pacifica' look about it, the TOM is a permanent feature but i wont keep gold on (obviously). The excellent sounds of the Toronado once again influenced this decision.
The mistake on the neck pocket has been the main gripe, it has caused problems further down the line and looks far from tidy. Still if it plays well i'm not too concerned.
The other gripe is waiting for parts or having to order from the US, it really is annoying especially when you have limited time to work on the project.
Here are a couple of pics to bring us up to date...

Thanks Nick. I definitely plan on doing something else so i may take you up on that.NickD wrote:I completely missed this thread!
Good work Fran, kinda makes sense making guitars if you already have the wood skills.
If you decide to do more I have a big plank of ash here that I'm not likely to use.
