tightened as in lowered it all the way down? Did you flip the bar? How do you string it if the strings won't go underneath?

Its low enough that I can get the lowest string under the bar. Requires me to push on the bar a bit to get it under but yeah all cool.

It's been a while since I did it, so it's a tad hazy. BUT, what I recall under the plate the tailpiece is attached with some nuts to the plate. If you tighten those down so that the tailpiece sits directly against the plate it's pretty well locked down. I think I flipped the piece to make restrings easier, can't remember and I don't have the guitar, she does.

I'd be fired.
Also springs on the bottom notch.
Tighten the springs down I think.

this thread is spiralling out of control...
mike- if i were you i'd first of all see how it plays when you put the 12s on, it might turn out fine. as long as the springs are reasonably tight it should hold its tuning perfectly well. if you don't like it after playing try the washers thing to lock it down, that's the easiest way. you have to make sure the posts are really tightened up though.
like i said earlier in the thread, the only reason i had to lock mine was because there were no springs there at all. i ordered the new ones, tried them, and it was perfect (even though i NEVER use the vibrato). some people swear by locking down, others curse the very idea. the best thing is to try it both ways and see.
