True, they were. I forgot about that. The export ones were the same as the other '69 RI in terms of specs, but the domestic Japanese ones had matching headstocks and white button Klusons.

Fuck this thread. We've known for years that Fender USA offers a choice between shit and crap when it comes to color selection and that told us Americans that we can pound salt for wanting more choice, by making sure that you can't get Jap's imported.

Old news.
The Japanese are just cooler when it comes to taste in guitars. You can buy anything there you can in the States.
Even stuff we get they get special runs on, like the color run of Squier '51s and Squier Cyclones, long before they had the Thin Skin nonsesne over here, a Japanese distributor had imported a run AVRI guitars in all sorts of custom colors with matching headstocks.
