ERIC JOHNSON STRAT RW MPM
ERIC JOHNSON STRAT RW LAF
He said in that video he was gonna try to use all Dupont car colors from the 50's and 60's, not fender colors but in the vein of what Fender did.

I was hoping Fender would be ready to show off the Ranaldo and Moore Jazzmasters, I realise the prototypes were shown off about four months ago but was hoping to see a little more of them!

if you go under Eric Johnson electrics and skip to 2:01, you can see it. It was supposed to come out in January Namm 08, but they pushed it back I guess.
Goodness that looks hot. No string trees, binding, and the neck profile looked moderately fat when he turned it. Interesting to hear about binding being only available for a few months in '65.

But you'll always know that you are playing a guitar championed by a twonk.

The More You Know
I could just about handle hearing that EJ can hear the difference in his fuzztone between different battery types, but Polarity of resistors? I'm sorry, this is where my friend Science says "Oh Dear"

The brand of battery thing he was talking about boils down to Alkaline vs. Carbon Zinc.
I don't hear a difference between them yet, but I also don't spend 4 to 5 hours tuning my guitar, like he used to. Some musicians have super sensitive hearing, sometimes it even limits them. Eric Johnson is seriously a tone freak, eventhough I don't like everything about his music, the tones for me our undeniable.

i thought the binding with dots thing was common knowledge since EJ is stealing all that mojo from teh Kurdtz 65 jaguar neck. same thing with the squier venus. courtney wanted binding with dots on her sig guitar because kurt had it on his jag. its already been done on that guitar. now they are just re-doing it on the strat and calling it new again.....

I think the battery thing might be discernable, but not to me personally. But it makes sense to me that a Fuzzface would display the difference if there is one more transparently than any other effect.

How can different batteries cause the tone to be different? Is there really any science to this? I just don't understand how this can be possible.

Sag.
When you dig into your strings when using a Fuzzface or another simple circuit which is very low current draw when Idling, the current draw only occurs when the Fuzzface circuit is amplifying your guitar. Allied with that is an immediate "sag" effect which can soften your attack slightly while the power supply restores itself to a steady state, and a similar effect on the sustaining tailoff of your guitar sound. We're talking absolute minutae of the pedal's response here though, I can't hear it.

Japan also released a '65 strat with binding and a smaller headstock and the Kurt Jag with binding. But Japanese strats always have the skinniest necks, from the ones I played.
I'm pretty sure Eric Johnson has never considered Kurt Cobain or Courtney love in the design of his guitars.
Also he says in the video, Ry Cooder has one, although I think his is from 67 and the whole thing about binding only being on 65 models is not totally true. So if anything he's tapping into Ry Cooder's mojo.

bound necks look gorgeous. wonder whether ej can hear a difference?
"mm, the plastic compresses the fingerboard slightly, resulting in a springier sound.."
bs.
I still just don't get the 'hot rod stripped down relic for more £££' idea though. who gives a f*ck if it's made by john page or someone else that cs deem is amazing. The last interesting things fender usa came up with were the -sonic series: telesonic (dearmond pups) and stratosonic (p90s). and even then, they were overpriced for what they are.
ry cooder's firebird/p90/bigsby strat looks cool but would guess the action would be somewhere near the far reaches of uranus..

Do want Telesonic. This is my favourite film.
Also, sometimes I swear I can tell the difference between an mxr dist plus powered by batteries and one powered by dc power supply. Prolly down to diff voltages though.

I power all my fuzzes and gain boxes especially if they're simple gain boxes with batteries, it really does make a difference.
