Would anyone gig one of these without a backup? Well, I like it. I agree that they just took the cookiest elements from all the old models, but that's sort of what I expect. It's Danelectro, not Fender. They're not gonna release every subtle variation of every guitar they've ever produced. They're gonna release one that works, looks awesome, and is reasonably priced.
My '57 U1 stays in tune for days and intonates perfectly on every string other then the 6th. Similar story with the 1448, though the intonation on the 2nd is a bit sharp. IDK where all the stories about catalog guitars going out of tune came from - I've never had a problem once they were set up properly.

Yeah, i was on about cheap department store guitars not so much Dano's. Proggy had one (forget which model) which played great and my friend had a 90's copper color U2 (i think) which was nice. Like i said i can see the attraction but they dont look solid enough to gig regular with to me, some of the parts look suspect too. I'd own one for the novelty factor but i suppose they'll be around £300 which is the price of a second MIJ Fender so... nah.DuoSonicBoy wrote:My '57 U1 stays in tune for days and intonates perfectly on every string other then the 6th. You guys are a bunch of whiners, seriously.
It's not an ugly modern squiggly headstock, like the last re-issue. Being that nothing released by Dano cost more than $400 list, these are probably gonna be cheap.
What exactly is so bad about these?
Atleast Danelectro is trying. If they make the blue one in baritone, I might have to consider one.

I love danelectros. In fact whenever I play my gf's Convertible, I feel like I don't need any other guitar at all.
There's a million and one solidbodies, semihollows, etc out there, Danelectros might be made out of cheap woods but they sound like nothing else because they're made differently. It's a cheap thrill that you can't get anywhere else.

Depends what you consider cheap. I think they are overpriced for what they are and always have been, sure they look cool but i would not have confidence in one gigging it week in week out.jcyphe wrote:You guys are a bunch of whiners, seriously.

Theres a DC59 going for under £100, i'd consider that for bedroom-lolz.
Fender guitars are fucking boring to tears.Mike wrote:lolz
Jcyphe hates Fenders but loves Plywood Danelectros. They might aswell be cardboard cutouts.
Danelectros are the coolest single coil sound, besides the Gibson p-90.
An electric guitar can be made out of anything, seriously. Nat Daniels was a smart man to figure that out ages ago, and time has proven him correct over and over.
Nathan Daniels was so smart that's why Leo Fender ripped off so many of his ideas.

I know, I don't dislike them, it just strikes me as funny. Squier make great guitars at similar pricepoints I would class as better though.Nick wrote:I love danelectros. In fact whenever I play my gf's Convertible, I feel like I don't need any other guitar at all.

I gotta disagree with you there Fran. The reissues I have played/owned are solid guitars, stayed in tune really well, and took a better beating than most other guitars I've owned. Sound and feel are all a matter of preference, but I gigged once or twice with the Dano baritone (bass VI) I used to have, and wouldn't think twice about gigging with my gf's Convertible. Some old silvertones can be kinda dodgy depending on what model you've got but the reissues have all felt well worth their salt.

Squier hasn't made truly great guitars that I would use since the Vista series, and that was a long time ago.
Seriously more than ten fucking years ago.
This is a Danelectro thread Mike, there are already 3,000 other threads about butt ugly and boring Fender guitars in this forum.

The blue one is the baritone. 27" scale, I believe.jcyphe wrote:Atleast Danelectro is trying. If they make the blue one in baritone, I might have to consider one.
I like my pine and masonite beauties; I wouldn't want them made any other way. Light weight, resonant, durable, and the vinyl tape keeps it from sliding on yr lap. I gave a speech about Danelectro last semester. My main thesis was about how minimalist the design was. They didn't use 2 screws if 1 could do the job. The PUP is one thick rod instead of individual polepieces; a simple piece of plate steel and rosewood for the bridge. The body didn't need to be mahogany or maple: pine would do. To me, the elegance and perfection of Danelectro is the simplicity. The U1 is my favorite design EVAR.
Yeah i just noticed, awesome.DuoSonicBoy wrote:The blue one is the baritone. 27" scale, I believe.jcyphe wrote:Atleast Danelectro is trying. If they make the blue one in baritone, I might have to consider one.
