All of this is moot if Fran is interested anyway, since this is his search and his thread, so we'll wait on his feedback. I'm not going to bogart a mate.

To give it a bit of a blast in case it's a complete spanner? I should be able to.

The shop's open 10am-6pm. So as long as I wake up by 4ish I can go down and have a go. It's most likely I can, but there's a slight chance I'll sleep past it because my brother (being a cunt) woke me up at about half 12 today by banging on the front door. If you just want to hold it so it doesn't sell Friday afternoon or something, I can give you the number or call them myself. As long as I wake up in time tomorrow or Friday it's no problem going down there though.

Cheers man, I appreciate that, but like I said in my above post, this is in Fran's court so I won't be holding it or anything until he has spoken.

This is awesome and also scary news, because it means I might end up buying it.

If you can get to it tomorrow James then by all means go for it, but if not no worries, I'll contemplate the 4 hour road trip then.

The things I would be interested in would be that it has a healthy amount of gain and isn't very noisy in terms of hum, especially when the gain is up. If you can't get there I totally understand

It's fairly likely I'll be able to get there. Even If I have to go straight after waking up. It's no hassle though really.

It'll be the afternoon when I go for sure. So i'm thinking the thing to do is for you to check out the details about years and vertical inputs and what have you, just to see if the 1980 thing checks out and more importantly decide if you want to go for it for serious and either post in this thread or PM me by about 3pm just to confirm that you want me to go check it out.

When I go down I'll ask a few questions about replaced parts (caps and what have you) and ask about holding it. I was the only one in the shop today when I was there and spoke to the owner about it a little, saying I had a friend who is after an amp like that and I'll get in touch with him about it (meaning Fran). If I go tomorrow and play it I think he'll realise it's serious business and hold it without a deposit til the end of Saturday or something like that. If they want a deposit I'll check if it's refundable, if not i'll give you a ring and see what you want to do, and if it is refundable I'll put it down for you.

That's mostly fairly obvious stuff, but I just want to be clear about it so I don't mess it up if I'm half asleep when I go there.

That is absolutely perfect mate and you're a star. I will get some info about Serial numbers and stuff for you and make sure you have a PM in your box by 3 tomorrow so you can check some stuff out - I really appreciate this mate. I think I've got it right about the Vertical/Horizontal thing, it certainly makes sens that the horizontal ones would be PCB mounted. as they're in line with the pots. If it's in good nick, sounds great (no weak tail off, poppiness in the background) and has some crunch to it with max preamp and lower master which would indicate it's looking good, then I'm very interested.

I've been studiously ignoring this thread since I thought it was about headache cures, only to discover it's about stuff happening on my own doorstep. Bugger. James, is it the shop on the same street you bought your bike on? The one without the miserable scottish bastard? (Check me out being all cagey). Mike, come up this way and I'll meet up with you for a bite to eat or something.

Haha. My suggestion that Benecol meets a shortscaler at a time to prepare him for doogfest is happening.

That's the one. They usually don't stock much of interest, but they get something good in from time to time just through being the only real second hand place around here.

Arr, NickS, Mr and Mrs Progrockabuse, and James, in that order. Plus the two students of mine who look like Hurb and Fran, of course.

I quite like that shop, James; just down from where my daughter was born, so I used to wander in when I was chucked off the ward during the day and play ther guitars - they were pretty good, and made me cuppas and stuff. They've got some new-old-stock 90's RI Dano's (overpriced, sadly) and some oddbod british amps I'd never heard of.
