Epiphone Les Paul Custom

...or you could get a tokai or burny which are true gibson copies.nondas wrote:Fran's right. They are a bit hit and miss in the electronics department. It's one of the first mods people do (that and the input jack... and the pots... and the wiring). Case in point:
Headstock angle: Why Gibson makes their own guitars with a 17 degree headstock angle compared with the Epi 14 degree (apart from the Casino). Why go out of your way to change this feature? Because you want to ensure that those products are perceived as inferior and carry the stigma of "budget line". Chuck in some cheap pups and here you go guitarist. Looks like a Gibson, but if you're a serious guitarist you should graduate to a real Gibson. I think that's the attitude and that's business. </end rant>
cogito ergo sum...thing or other...
that was the genius of leo fender really. he found a way to cheaply produce a quality guitar. no headstock angle, the whole neck was made out of one piece of wood. of course, as we all know, it doesn't work or sound the same as a guitar built to traditional standards. but we like them that way.Reece wrote:less headstock angle equals cheaper production?
fender have made a grave error there then.

Funnily enough, i've just had a limited edition Epiphone LP (green sparkly top) come to me for repair. The toggle switch has broke, but when i opened it up i was quite disgusted at the quality of toggle switch used. Its one of the crappy plastic £3.00 jobs. I'd expect a metal 3-way for my money is all im saying.nondas wrote:Fran's right. They are a bit hit and miss in the electronics department. No. Its how i would imagine a J Mascis LP to look like if he had used one.benecol wrote:Is it wrong that I don't dislike that finish?
Its funny doing these repairs, i enjoy it and its extra money but i either end up with GAS for something similar or just get disgusted at the quality to price ratio. As example, working on that Westone Thunder puts stuff like this Epi to shame, they are not in the same league. Yet be prepared to pay £200 more for the Epi.

The pedal stuff is similar, particularly when I discover what people are churning out in terms of derivative design or just shoddy workmanship. I'm well chuffed you've got into the Guitar game, you've got plenty of skills and it's good to see you getting some coin as a result.Fran wrote:No. Its how i would imagine a J Mascis LP to look like if he had used one.benecol wrote:Is it wrong that I don't dislike that finish?

Im equally excited about your pedal business. i've dabbled myself and i know where your coming from. What people are charging for knocked up basic Fuzz Boxes on ebay is a joke.

The further a Les Paul appears from the Horseshoe ends of the ubiquitous '59 Burst and the horrific Dark Fire/Robot Modern "axes", the more likely I am to like it. If it is stupidly garish or dented to crap I'm also more likely to like it, I like them to have been roughed about a bit.. because of what they are
