Well I've done my order now anyway (I needed to as I'm out of 10ks).

In the SHO where the diode is an LED is it a red one? It's coloured red but just says 'LED' and I don't know if the colour is generic in the layout creator.

Just a generic red LED is fine.

The SHO layout really uses two 2.2M resistors? The largest I have is 1M so I could do with a couple of those. A standard red LED for the diode too (I actually have lots of diodes, are there equivilants that I could use to use up one of what I have?)

I also may have done something silly. When shopping for parts I flicked through my saved schematics folder and order the transistor for a Rangemaster type. But the potentially silly part is that it's NPN so I've ordered a AC127. Should I have gone for PNP?

I quite like the look of this PNP layout. It's compact and simple which is what I'll need to make it fit in a small box.

Other than the two 2M2 resistors and the red LED I have everything I need for two of the boosters.

For the NPN one (please don't tell me I need a battery for that) I need a 68k resistor and my closest ones are 39k and 100k. It also has a 3.9k resistor and I have 3.3k and 4.7k (I assume 3.3k will be fine though).

So in total I need

two 2.2M resistors
68k resistor
3.9k resistor
red LED
confirmation that I haven't done something foolish.

I'll package that all up for you, but you don't need 2.2Ms for a SHO, 1Ms are fine as a substitute.

As for your rangemaster, I think we just need to tweak the circuit. You have an NPN Germanium Transistor right? That's good news and means it can be run of a "normal" supply. I might have to do you a layout for it though.

The Microamp uses a 22M resistor! I did manage to track some down but they're hugelol. Two 10M resistors in the next one I make. TBH I've no idea what this does in the circuit or how much leaway I've got. It's just yer standard pulldown resistor?

Dude you can just use a 1M. it's just a pulldown resistor to prevent pop on switching. It means the input cap is never floating with some DC offset on it

I probably worded that badly. I was looking at an NPN layout when I ordered the transistor. It's a AC177 Ge type. I didn't know if that was a good one or not I figured I'd just give it a go.

This is the layout I have for it.

Presume you mean AC127, not AC177.

AC127 is npn and listed as ok on that layout, so you will be fine. Unsure what you are concerned about?

Yeah 177 was a typo, it's 127.

I was thinking that maybe an NPN would mean I couldn't use a boss style dc jack or daisy-chain.

No, a PNP means that. But even that can be recitfied at the detriment of some m@j@

I've packed all these up in a baggie and it's in one of the bags I'm gonna be bringing, so we're all good.

I'm not sure were I heard the 'I owe you a coke' phrase but I think of it everytime in this sort of situation (not someone giving me 2.2 resistors, this is a first for that. I mean the small but generous favour). I think it's probably from the Simpsons. Will do internet research.

Has anybody scouted the availability of Irn Bru in Bognor so that we can stock up during the beer run?

They do it in Tescos so I'm gonna get some on my Friday morning shop for Lager etc.

We should get Doritos and Dips this year for nibbles!

Tell you what: we come back and everyone's slaughtered, I owe you a Coke.
Burns: Will you quit your complaining!
Smithers: Sir, You know what this means? He IS alive
Burns: Oh, you're right Smithers, I guess I owe you a coke.
It's not the context I remember it in but I like it still.

Two days is pretty good going. Should be able to drill and spray colour for all four cases today. I need to go and buy the colour first, though.

If you put three Hammond A boxes side-by-side they're the same size as a BB box.

New parts day is such a lovely day. 2 days is fantastic shipping time, nice.

Those A boxes look lovely, check out the curved edges. I notice Hammond/Eddystone boxes come in a few "styles" and I got the loveliest one that I used for Stewart's OCD. It was more matte aluminium and had a flatter face and larger radius corners. I can't explain why it was beautiful because it was just a BB box but it was fucking lush.
