i don't see how you think you know what you're talking about?

i have an epiphone les paul. it sounds like my jagmaster, just holds sustain for longer, yet sounds the same with most overdrive. it sounds the fucking same, i'm sorry. i play them both through the same amp, and i can't tell a difference. the decay? the bloom? really?

it sounded like you were arguing that the pickups don't make the guitar sound.

what are the effects of amber switch tips on decay and bloom?

the amber actually encapsulates the bloom of the humcancelation.

Yes, really. The problem then is with your ears, if you can't differentiate the sound of the two.

Pickups are essentially microphones. The same PAF that's in a Les Paul is in an ES335, that's in an L5, that's in an SG. Anyone with half-decent ears could tell the difference between these guitars because the construction (and thus instrument timbre/note decay) is DIFFERENT!

By the logic you're using, a piece of 2x4 with a PAF installed would be indistinguishable from your Les Paul.

To take it a step further, by the logic you're using, I would sound the same as Bono if I sang through a Shure SM58, since that's the same mic/'pickup' that he's using.

The NATURE of a guitar is heard, regardless of the type of pickups in it. Pickups are simply emphasizing/de-emphasizing certain frequencies. The fundamental character of the way a string vibrates does not change because of pickups.

This isn't 'corksniffery', it's basic physics.

A strat trem non floating will have the same decay as a tune-o-matic and a properly mounted neck has the same sustain.

If wood has as much affect on the tone, I got a different guitar, my strat had a maple fretboard and my cyclone has a rosewood fretboard. And the strat and cyclone are from nearly the same year. As the serial code said 2002-2003 instead of 2001-2002.

Maple and rosewood fretboards will give you distinctly different tones as well, yeah?

They aren't distinct, but I can tell a subtle difference, the Maple is more brighter.

i can absolutely tell the difference in tone between my guitars with maple necks and those with rosewood...it's not like WOAH THAT FINGERBOARD IS FUCKING DIFFERENT AS FUCK. but espech when playing you can tell.

Everybody hears what they hear with different guitars and sometimes what they want to hear .

It's funny you mention this because when Les Paul did this he played a gig and everyone said his guitar was awful looking and sounding. So he clipped some dummy wings to it the next gig and it looked like the familiar archtop style and everyone said it was great sounding. So people judged it on visuals(unless you want to argue the crudely attached dummy sides changed the tone .)

Some different construction techniques produce different "tones". But there is not really much hard science when it comes to most people's discussion about "tone", in fact it's mostly pseudo science.

Les also developed the Solidbody not for a different tone but for more volume with less feedback which does make scientific sense. What the electric guitar ended up becoming was way different than he had envisioned it. Les was trying to get a guitar that had no noise and low impedance so he could get the cleanest possible signal to use his effects. Rock guitarists turned around and used amp Feedback, 60 cycle hum, distortion and fuzz devices to do something totally different.

There are no absolutes stop being such a judgemental guy and telling this the poster he should return his guitar. THE FUCKING BALLZ.

i dont have squier one, but i love my two cyclones. for some reason the bridge humbucker in the red one just kills me when driven. it sounds awesome. i have heard people diss cyclones before, and i think my black one is definately second fiddle to my red one, but for some reason my red one is just awesome all around. except for when my bass player put the ding in it falling up on the stage....

That's too bad, because I find both of those colours rather boring. But if I get my hands on one, it would be the perfect candidate for a refin!
