Funny one of my first bikes was a Honda CX-500, the mini version of that bike. Later used to craete the silverwing.

I don't have nearly enough mass for a goldwing... I also have too much self respect.

Had me a 1983 Honda Rebel 250 and a 1981 Suzuki GS450 S.

The problem with buying old shitty bikes is you seem to need a new one every season. Luckily the Geeb has given me not a days trouble in 3 years and the vespa is... well a vespa.

i'm still debating on whether or not i want to try an nurse my '81 gs550L back to health. the motor's an 83, and i recently fried the ignition system out whilst trying to jump it. ok, i didn't, my drunk volunteer did. everytime i fix something on it, someone goes and fucks it up.

previously my old-roomate thought he'd be a sweetheart and move it out of the way in the garage, but laid it over and fucked up the brake fluid resevoir. now it's under it's $150 custom cover on my grandparents farm.

if this house shit works out, i'm buying this:

Buell's are awful. At least the blast is. Horrible fit and finish, horrible clutch/transmission, boring engine, shit breaks. Worst bike I've ever ridden. And I learned on nighthawks and rebels. I'd go for the big ducati monster if you want those visual queues on a quality bike.

you ever ridden an american buell? politely STFU until you do. these bikes are made for smaller riders, and i've never been so impressed (and not to brag, but i've ridden a lot of bikes).

blasts are made in some other country and yes, they're shit. they're the bastard child. the thunderbolts however (and the firebolt for that matter) are phenomenal pieces of equipment in both form, function, and fit/finish. (4 F's of quality)

near perfect center of gravity, and low enough that i can stand without crushing my balls. those bikes corner like nothing i've ever ridden. they don't wheelie, but i'm looking for something to keep me on the ground.

i was seriously about buying one before i bought my car, and spent about 5+ hrs riding at the local dealer course, and i will never consider another bike. ducati monsters are shit, in terms of performance, balance, and maintenance.

Was unaware there was a non-american made Buell. Explains the crap quality of the blast. I'm really not sold on American bikes anyhow though, the harley sportster I rode was a world class piece of junk. Any brand new bike that makes grinding noises when you set it into first is not the bike for me, and this is apparently common on harleys. To the point that the salesman called it the "Harley Thunk". Like he was proud of it...

Anywho... I'll buy that the lightning is a nice bike and I'll certainly ride one given the chance. But I think you're being unfair to teh monster, especially for smaller riders. I've obviosuly never had one long term so I can't speak for the maintenance but they are great all around bikes. They handle as well as my scooter, corner easy, smooth shifting... probably one of the easiest bikes I've ever ridden. They practically ride themselves. That said, they're not fast... at all. My geeb would dust one easy (and she's no speed demon) but speed is not what that bikes about. It's about an easy ride. Which is probably why I liked it, I'm no racer... 55 is just fine for me.

If it was anything like my GS450 it also handled like a wooden barrel.

mine handles really nice. i relocated the top rear shock mounts to 'lower' it, and i made a 'custom' low-pro seat for it. i love it, it's just carb'd and unreliable.

i posted a pic of it when i first joined... searching...

My gs was a great bike, just waaaaay too tall for my wee little legs. Center of gravity was fucked.

Fuck, since I' e been about fifteen, I've lusted after a Suzuki Bandit 600. Usually, when I have an idea, I'll try to forget about it and see if it's still there a few months later. This idea is still there. I have my full driving license, but I've never been on a bike, and doubt I ever will.

It strikes me as tremendous fun. Like skiing, except everyday, and a lot more dangerous.
