could you not try an extension cab or is that too big?

The amp alone barely fits in the boot. Goddamn VW Beetle :x

There is a last option, and the cheapest of them all- Get a 1x15 cab and use my Crate PowerBlock.

They are an awesome piece of equipment, but you need some decent pedals with one. Its just a blank canvas for sound.

I was just browsing eBay for "vintage amp" and saw this:

50W All Valve Crate Club50

50w, twin channel, 1x15 combo. seems to fit the bill?

If he's struggling with a 40w, it'd be foolish to just buy a 50w..

How about one of the Bugeras? This might be a bit big still, but have a nosey around.

I'm actually watching that Crate, but you might have a point Doog, i think it should give me that extra 'poke' i need at the moment but 10w difference seems a daft investment. In 6 months it will probably be "oh, i wished i'd bought a 60w amp". Looked at the Bugera's as well Paul, looked at everything, even brands i never knew existed.
Second hand it seems 80s/90s Peavey stuff is about the best deal, unfashionable but loud.

I know what you mean. That's why I bought a 150 half stack when I was sixteen. I thought: "I don't ever want to regret not buying a bigger amp." and I never did.

That's hardly any sort of solution to your problem, though.

Looked at them as well. They got some mixed reviews but thats probably snobs expecting it to sound like a Vox AC30 for £300.

Are you using it as just a clean base for pedals, or switchin' those channels?

Just clean mostly, but obviously my Overdrive pedals are still pushing the valves which as a result is way better than any Solid State experience i've had.

FFS.

This is unbelievable. I've just started taking the back off the Marshall to have a look at the valves and the ohm rating switch is on the wrong setting. The internal speaker is 16 ohms and the switch is set at 8 ohms WTF, either its been caught in transit or that numpty that serviced it has moved it.
Correct me if i am wrong but does'nt this mean it has not been running on full output?

Yeah, that's not going to be efficient. Lucky it wasn't the other way around (16 ohm setting and 8ohm speaker)

I think you're right.

Maybe he was hoping you'd bring it back so's he could leave it in the shop for a few days, flick the switch, and charge you fifty quid for it.

Meh. A useful thread, none the less.
