To be fair I way prefer the drums of shellac to Roland in BB but you can't say that Bad Penny and Cables aren't freakin awesome. As for originality I agree. I did once play shellac to a mate and be goes 'ah! Jesus Lizard!'. I think you can hear some influence here and there along with Gang of Four

The Big Black guitar is from a guitar shop in Evanston that built and sold parts guitars. It's just a stripped down, double cut tele style. Nothing special or magical.

The Electrical (EGC) is now his backup guitar in Shellac. His main Bean 500 seems to have been rebuilt or tuned up by Kevin at EGC; new pickups, new pickguard with volume and switch only.
