Clear is what they use on guitars. its easy to buy but it wont look very good on your cab. it isn't going to make it much more heavy duty either. Carpet wil, but will also change the sound at least a little.

I knew they used clearcoat on guitars, I guess spraypaint is a broad term.

Hmm, I just cringe when I pick it up and you can hear the would scraping the carpet..
