No, it sounds like a fret buzz, except it isn't a fret buzzing. I just covered every single fret with painters tape so if it did hit a fret it would not be a metallic sound, and it is still there as soon as I tune it anywhere near the B note. Again, it goes away when I tune down, ie less tension, and when I tune higher, ie more tension.

Okay, what the fuck is with you in this thread? Why are you being such a total dick? This is a legitimate problem with a guitar. I'm not arguing with people.

Dots, I checked again and I don't see anything, I mean hell I completely removed the neck pickup and the switch, all that is under there is the bridge pickup going to one single volume pot, then the jack.

Lolz, have you lost your sense of humor? I've set hundreds of guitars up and i've tried to help, but it seems unresolvable so i joined in with Reece's joke.

Good luck with it and cheerio.

if it were me, i'd definitely take it to luthier before putting glue into or otherwise getting jiggy with the truss rod or truss shaft. here's a silly question. . . is it possible to put another neck on the body or put that neck on another body?

fuuuuuuuuuuu

then i'd definitely take it to a luthier. as far as pens being a pussy. . . dude, i met da mang. he ain't. and if a buzz is loud enough to be picked up by the amp, then it's hardly a minor thing. i'd say MAYBE try upgrading thing pickups to see if some better electronics wouldn't be so microphonic. my slut-o-caster has some odd buzzes to it sometimes, but emg's are too awesome to put that through the signal. worth a shot since he's said the pickups need replacing anyway.

Don't discount the truss tod because of the string buzz noise. The fact you said it goes away detuning could simply mean the truss resonates at a paricular frequency range. Well actually everything does but if it's loose then you know what I mean.

My pignose Amp from Benecol developed a buzz caused by vibration when playing a G note (plus or minus a semitone). Fixed by tightening the screws holding the speaker in.

If you tighten the truss right up (so it's bracng against the inside if the neck) do you get the same noise?

My sonex used to have a weird buzz, that i put down to the pickups being microphonic or something, I could tame it a bit by rolling off even more treble than i usually do...

Eventually solved it by screwing down the pickguard. aha

I'm going to make a demo of this sound tonight.

It sort of does it on other strings depending on what note they are tuned to.

This is just the most bizarre thing I've ever seen.

EDIT:

Before I hear shit about it being frets, etc.

This is with the goddamn fretboard covered in masking tape. Yes, every single fucking fret is covered in tape. So if it was hitting a fret, it would not be a metallic sound. Also note all i'm doing is plucking it open, and turning the tuner a bit. I'm not even plucking very hard. When I actually strum it is EVEN LOUDER.

argh, that buzz sounds really familiar.

Put a sock in the trem cavity also thinking this might be it.

Still there.

That does sound like strings bouncing off the frets, masking tape present or not.

I would say frets are uneven, wherever it's hitting its creating that harmonic buzzing noise, it doesn't necessarily have to hit metal to make a metallic type noise. I hear it so often on Epiphone guitars that come through the shop I work in. Use a credit card and check there's no rocking on the frets.

Other than that:
Badly cut nut
Bridge too low or rattling... grub screw(s) ?
Neck is too straight and needs some more relief
tuners / string tree

I really don't reckon that's a truss rod issue... it wouldn't be so audible through the amp IMO

I know you've gone down these avenues and disregarded most of them as being a problem, but I'm just thinking out aloud here.
