srsly, i appreciate everyone who inputted something other than "buy this, buy that."
kim, i didn't mean that i took offense. i just thought i had made it clear that i'm not trying to emulate any particular sound, i just don't want my alt rock-y, experimental setup to sound like that when i'm trying to play punk songs.
sometimes the guy i play bass with is like, "that's missing something," unless i'm playing with the brostang. and i have no fucking clue what it's missing because i'm focusing on playing the right chordage, not if the sound is necessarily audible.
it's too fuzzy at this point, and it appears the consensus is to drop the bass out a bunch. my main trouble was i didn't want to fuck with my amp settings a bunch, because i have it set for my best sound for my original jams.
again. thanks to everyone.

Hotrod el duderino your demo video, the playing, your attitude THAT WAS PUNK ROCK. But yeah James has a point that you're asking about soundz more than a general SPIRIT OF TEH PUNXXORS. You got the spirit so I'll leave it to others to advise on the sound but if i may highlight "what it's missing because i'm focusing on playing the right chordage," I reckon if you're having to concentrate then what is missing is the physical emotional content that once you know it off by heart you can invest some real stuff into it ...uumm yeah but no Emo thanks. investing 'stuff pretty much translates in sound as DYNAMICS That's what I reckon is missing.

Hot Rod.... If the main issue is the EQ on the amp and not wanting to have to mess you original setting for a couple punk songs (especially if you amp is finicky about settings as some are...) pick up a dano fish and chips EQ pedal (or the behringer boss clone). Then you can readjust the EQ settings via the pedal for the songs you want and both pedals are dirt cheap...Fish and chips should be like $15-20 used and behringer is 20-30 new.
They say great minds think alike....Sometimes we do too...
By which I learn who The Horrors were ripping off on their first ep:laterallateral wrote:or this:

Oh, and to pimp The Gruesomes cause they're tragically underrated.

I wouldn't call the Horrors a Gruesomes ripoff at all,Black Cat Bone wrote:By which I learn who The Horrors were ripping off on their first ep:laterallateral wrote:or this:

That one song I posted is a garage rock standard originally done by The Sonics.
I would say these two bands owe a huge lot of their sound to them, as does most punk rock.

NOt really. It's totally got a good punky sound, assuming bass retention is not important to you. The TP is one of the fuzzes in the Shoe gazer, which is still quite available.James wrote: sound a thing like torn speakers (assuming that's what the pedal sounds like).

The Horror's guitarist used to go to my mate's uni (Kingston that is). He eventually dropped out when The Horrors got big though.
So anyway, one day my mates were playing football round their halls of residence courtyard and the ball went out of play right next to where the Horror's guitarist was walking past. After someone said "pass the ball mate" he kept walking on and said "I don't plaaay footborl" in a really conceited way and kept walking.
Actually I expect he probably levitated away on a mysterious cloud of fog, because you know, The Horrors are deep and mysterious and do what they want.

Breaking news: football means precisely shit-all to some male human beings because guitars and punk rock Are more fucking real. And I'm drunk so thereGeorgeF wrote:The Horror's guitarist used to go to my mate's uni (Kingston that is). He eventually dropped out when The Horrors got big though.

heh dude I get ya it's a fine line between stoopid and intelligent - and somewhere in between is 'pretentious' and I'm quite at home there.GeorgeF wrote:Yeah I'm one of them but dude could have just kicked the ball back. I would have done but that's just me, I will always help people and try and make the world a better place til I fucking die.
And SNAP on the drinking.

i am so hopeless with my feet that i would probably miss and hit the top of my ball with my foot, causing me to slip backwards and slam my head on the ground.
this has happened more than once, hence i don't kick balls back anymore.
