I love your constant level headed maturity.

Also did you actually read my post at all?
eurotrashed wrote:Its far easier to refer to it as "indie" because you all know what the fuck I am talking about.
Reece wrote:I honestly have no idea what anyone means by indie any more.
That's a true statement.

I can look up The National and find that they're apparently "indie". I can also look up The Ting Tings and find that they're also "indie".
These two bands are miles apart in all that they are. Indie seems to mean "one of them has a guitar or something".
I love how dense people are here. I get thrown some insults, so I throw out some tongue in cheek insult and wah wah wah, I am in here being immature.

And if you don't understand the current bands that are being labeled indie these days, then you really are dense.

I mean really. All I do is make a post about how playing a Strat would be more "indie" than playing an offset and everyone gets their panties all up in a twist and even more upset if I say anything back.

hey, I don't know how else you can be mocked. Cause all you do is bitch and complain. Cause thats how you sound. If you don't want to be mocked like that, stop your nonsense. First you don't like the word "indie" now you don't like people mocking with "wah wah wah."

My point was that Alex Turner, someone who could be considered the epitome of modern 'indie,' frequently uses a Strat.

I do like that Rivers Cuomo Strat though...

Right. There are some "indie" artists that do use the Strat. but mostly its offsets. It was kind of funny when I saw Built to Spill, these new "indie" acts opened and all played offsets. Then Doug Marsch came out with a Strat and showed them all up

Oi you, stop that.

And you, while you're at it. Or I'll knock your heads together.

Eurotrashed, maybe if your original post had read more along the lines of what you actually meant? "It's ironic, but Verlaine, Thurston, Mascis and Kurtz all bought their offsets because they were cheap and undesirable; the equivalent today would be a strat yuk yuk yuk etc." then everything would have been a lot more straightforward. Instead, you have to unleash the whole 'Semantics of Indie' debate, which has now replaced the buzzstop as the forums' argument of choice.

I didn't think I had to lay it out like no one here has a clue about offset history. I will have to be more careful next time and not leave parts up for assuming understanding. Even more ironic is that Mascis wanted a Strat.

BTW. I have a Mastery Bridge. Ready. Aim. Fire.

Mastery bridges are great.

I think you misunderstand shortscale. It's not that we're all in agreement with each other, all of the time. It's that we pick up on things that people have said that are stupid. That's all.

Yeah, bout my back to offset w/ monkey grip jag remark

I admit, I crossed the line on that one pretty deep.

But ekwatts summed shortscale up beautifully in his last post.

The statement that a Strat would be more "indie" today than an offset, is not that stupid of a concept. If you disagree whatever, but it is all an opinion, and no matter how dense you guys act, you understand where I am coming from.

But strats are used all the time in "indie" music? Biffy Clyro and Arctic Monkeys are good examples of bands that rely heavily on strats.

Yeah, there are bands out there with Strats, but they are a minority, but what is thought of as the quintessential indie guitar? Jazzmaster, Jaguar, Mustang, etc. I bet there are more Teles in "Indie" than Strats.

why is everybody even bothering to discuss this whole 'indie' or not thing?

Its more fun to argue over who has the best groomed mustache. Cause whom has the most ironic facial hair is the most indie.

eurotrashed wrote:Look at the demographics. People on these forums often own offsets and play indie or are old and play surf. I started going to more indie concerts this year and I have never seen so many offsets.

Back in the day, indie kids bought Jags and JMs cause they were cheap and plentiful. Now people pay lots of money for these things, while cheap strats fill pawn shops
Cheap strats fill pawn shops because they made too many of them....they still do. They're more practical than jaguars/mustangs for the most players beginner and pro.

The whole indie thing is stupid from both sides.

Indie isn't a genre.

If it's clean and full of hooks then it's pop.
If it's loud and raw sounding then it's rock.
If it's not any of those then it's experimental.

I have used the word indie to classify things counterculture, but it is a stupid word for a genre of music. Don't get me wrong...I know who YOU'RE talking about.....

but those are PITCHFORK KIDS....who listen to PITCHFORK BANDS and play PITCHFORK GUITARS.

Not indie. Pitchfork.

Everybody is ignoring the real, burning question at the absolute heart of this issue.
