A few interesting pictures on that site. It gives the impression that the odd tailpiece was only on the very early II models.

yeah it was probably considered like a deluxe thing. it looks like their version of the epiphone frequensator tailpiece.

I was going to call Dennis up and maybe go out to Corona to see him early next week, so I'll try to remember to ask him about the Bigsby question when I see him.
Fender did offer Telecasters with Bigsby vibratos as an option, so I don't know how big of a stretch it would have been to order one on a Coronado. Seems plausible. They were pretty open to custom options in the 60s. Also, Bigsby was also a SoCA company, and Leo and Paul Bigsby certainly knew each other. Both had sold their companies by '65; with Ted McCarty (of Gibson fame) having purchased Bigsby, and CBS having bought Fender. So by the time the Coronado came out in '66, it was certainly possible that Fender might have been offering a Bigsby on a Coronado as an option - but I do not know for sure either way.
Has anyone removed their Bigsby and looked for "extra" screw holes or other signs of alteration? I don't think the two units (Fender tailpiece / vibrato and Bigsby) used the same mounting screws... Assuming it is a factory finish on the guitar, the lack of any extra or hidden / un-used screw holes would probably be fairly convincing evidence that it came with that Bigsby vibrato unit installed from the factory.

the standard coronado hardtail just attaches at the butt of the guitar, the strap button is screwed through it as far as i know, so there shouldn't be any holes in the top of the body on a standard model. not entirely sure about the models with the fender vibrato (the triangular shaped one) but i think that just sits on the surface too.

I played one a few months back. All I can say is it felt and sounded like a happy medium between my Rickenbacker 330 and vintage Hagstrom Viking II if that tells you anything

aen just got a 66 coro, standard busrst with trem.
i was rather suprised to see that rather than springs it relys on a bent piece of metal for the trem action.
very smooth feeling and ratheraccurate to my playing style.
his is very much stock except for the replaced bridge and case.
and there seems to be a crack that was repaired or something, very small, on the upper bout.
its a great fucking guitar and if he ever gets rid of it i may have whore mylself to afford it.

Yeah, dude, that trem is bizarre, but it works pretty damn well. Bridge is held on by tension alone, Im really considering sticking it down. After seeing all these, I feel like I scored the lamest coro, compared to all the wildwood/12string non-burst shit going round.
Im going to make a special pedal to use with it.
1) Clean boost (to bring it up to speed with my other guitars
2) Overdrive (to overdrive the sound)
3) Distortion with a GATE, or EQ, so I can rip it up without always feeding back.
Best part about coronoados is the worst part. Hollow body vibrations. Yess, it shoots air out of the F holes while you tear shit up, but high notes have a tendancy to die, victim to unpleasant microphonic feedback. I have a rat clone that is sounding really good with it, especially if I roll down the tonez on my neck pickup for Deep Blues Tonez.

i read a review on HC ages ago where the guy said he'd stuffed a T shirt inside to dampen the sound a little. i've never felt the need to, it works quite well for me as it is.
i find the pickups to be higher output than my duo-sonic. i usually have to roll the gain on my OD down by a quarter to compensate if i use the coronado instead of the duo. haven't done a comparison with the jag yet but i imagine it'll be the same.
