I got a reply from the shop selling then 2nd hand Yairi G1F. They said it was in good condition (i was hoping for more detail than that but nevermind) and they could do it for £525. BUT THEN I found it NEW for £599. It's pretty crazy how the price ranges from £949 to £599 for the same guitar! It shows how much you can save if you shop around. I think I would prefer to get a brand new one, who knows why that 2nd hand one was returned to the shop, it could be a dodgy one.

This thing SINGS. Could do with some new strings i think, they feel a bit dead, especially the high E. But it sounds so sweet. Could also do with getting some thinner picks, the only ones i have is a bit too thick for strumming on this acoustic. It is brilliant, amazing quality. Looks stunning. I will take photos in a sec, it literally arrived 30mins ago.
The one i saw in the shop had a slightly lower action, i might (not immediately) get the bridge filed down or whatever. I would only get this done by a pro though, its not needed really. It does feel great to play as it is. The neck feels as narrow (width of nut) as my mustang but a big thicker the other way so it fills your hand a bit more. Feels quite strange as the only acoustic i've been using for ages is my classical which as a wide neck, it's not a bad feeling though, I will get used to it fast.
I will demo it tomorrow probably as well.

Some more thoughts since I've been playing it through the evening...
I found a thinner pick better suited to acoustics and it sounds soo nice. It sounds best when you use a pick but play bluesy/jazzy chords that stutter and don't ring out all the time. They have so much BITE. My mum said it sounded very "clean" compared to my classical. I think the brighter steel strings is what she means. The individual notes of a chord stand out a lot more. It's also pretty loud with the pick! I was surprised.
Fingerpicking on it is a bit of a love hate relationship right now, just because I'm used to wider neck of a classical. It feels a bit like fingerpicking on an electric guitar, my fingers (on the picking hand) are occasionaly catching the next string. I will get used to it in a couple of days though, it isn't a negative about the guitar itself. It sounds SUPERRRB. I don't use my fingernails when picking so it isn't as loud as using a pick, and isn't as bright sounding. It's a nice contrast.
I'm going to change the strings for sure. The high E has that rough feeling, like a reallly old string. It's obviously been in the shop a while, maybe that's why it was a lot cheaper than in other shops? Also they are a bit thicker than what I like so they're quite tight.

I really like the smaller Yairi bunch, the ones I've played feel so solid and have great resonance. There's also a 50% chance of me being able to trade my oft-ignored Samick concert jumbo for someone's koa-topped KYF-3E that I've played around with for years. It's admittedly rather weak acoustically but sounds huge when plugged in.

ha ok. My old classical guitar teacher used to grow the nails ONLY on his right hand, for fingerpicking. It was pretty weird but it sounded good lol.Will wrote:You don't need much of a nail to fingerpick really. You'll see some Esteban-types with ridiculous acrylic extensions, but that's total overkill. That guitar looks interesting, I've never seen one before. You should get it if you can.

holy cow that guitar is perfect. I recorded a small thing today with the K.Yairi. My mic sucks and is really noisy so I couldn't record any fingerpicking stuff, it's just too quiet and the mic hardly picks it up. It worked ok when playing with a pick though and being as loud as possible.
