spin-a-splits are indeed VERY useful. I made a one pickup guitar (GFS Loud Mouth) for my friend Mark and instead of a tone I gave him a spin-a-split and he can pull sooooooooooo many tones out of that thing. If I ever get another bucker instrument I'll likely include one.

Word, on the sweep of the spin-a-split, there are so many great tones to be found. Sure, at the very end it's usually not all that, but even so.

And like I just suggested, you can easily do a spin-a-split on a two single-coil guitar for a FAT sound dialing down all the way to a biting single coil bridge pickup.

More useful on bass than guitar, especially since Jazz Basses have that second volume knob you can cannibalize for this, but I generally prefer blend knobs and spin-a-splits to three-way switches.

I'm currently trying to find out if I can change my neck roller-splitter into a volume roller, so as I can make use of the phase switch mod I did on the cpjaghh. That would then be my perfect looking and sounding jag...

P-Rails are good but I think they're more suited for those who want mainly fat with a touch of glass, rather than the other way around. Lace Dually works a lot better for mainly glass with a touch of fat.

Glad this thread was resurrected as I was mostly mia the first go-around.

Any of the three guitars listed would make a great choice, depending on what you are after. They're a clear example of taking a classic design and incorporating different combinations of traditionally employed mods while adhereing to what what makes a jag a jag. While I have logged many hours playing my hh jag (upgraded to gfs p90's), I have played the other two and can attest to their undeniable quality. I do have to admit I am not a fan of dragsters, but that's just preference. And with these instruments already being not completely strict observers of jaguar aesthetics, i'd much rather see somebody alter their configs to taste than chop up a vintage or avri.

I also recommend playing it if you can. MIJ Black Jag Specials are okay, I owned two as my first fender offsets a couple years back. Definitely loved the neck on those but the color scheme and lack of trem left something to be desired. The CP line is pretty solid, having owned a CP jazzy and played a couple others in stores, but i've also read they are hit or miss. I'd snatch one up before they decide to discontinue the line. PLUS, olympic white!
