I hate CL, too. So many flakes to deal with who string you along, but I prefer using it over eBay a lot of the time.

I took at look at DFW CL and it looks like they re-listed the J Mascis for $750. Is that the same one you're looking at?

I don't think so...looks like someone else...the other entry is still there and different person.

Quick update:

I sold the Bugera V5 for $100

I got a taker on CL for the Squier Duo Sonic for $150.

The cash buyer for the Jagmaster disappeared, so I am going ahead with the trade for the Fender Toronado.

The Jazzmaster still appears to be there, so I will try to sell the Toronado or try to trade the toronado + Cash.

I will post pics of the Toronado once I get it (assuming everything goes as planned) and will offer it to Shortscale before I post it on CL again.

Toronado should be easier for them to sell than a purple jazzmaster ;)

Let's hope. I didn't have any cash last time either so that will help as well.

Think Guitar Center would give me more that a Pawn shop would for the Toronado?

probably the same. Pawn Shops will do more trade value than they will cash.

I was told by a couple of GC employees that they usually offer around 40% of what something sells for on eBay. They even said it's not a good idea unless you're desperate for cash or just want to get something out of the house.

I feel like I am so close if I can get my buyers to call me back. I understand people have lives and stuff to do, but if you contact someone and offer money for something you want, I would think you would be incline to communicate and try to work something out in a reasonable amount of time. I had someone offer me cash for my Jagmaster, I accepted it and then just disappeared. I just don't get that.

Classic tire kicker. Ignore.
Be happy he didn't waste an hour of your time being all up in your shit, rubbing his chin, trying to lowball you only to leave you on a "thinkaboutit".

I had a tire kicker string me along for nearly three weeks when I was selling a synth several months ago. We agreed on the negotiated price, spoke on the phone, and set up a time to meet. He cancelled a couple of times, no-showed another time, and then ignored my e-mails and calls. I understand tire kickers in stores, but I don't understand why anyone would do that on Craigslist.

In my experience, deals go sour before reaching a face-to-face situation in two ways:

Irrationally self-imposed confrontation avoidance

Buyer is guilting himself for wanting to back out of a deal, feels pressured to justify his decision and finally just bitches out when all they really needed to do was tell you the deal's off.

Misdirected passive-aggressive backpedal

Really interested in item, possibly obsessively so. Is directing his dissatisfaction with not being able to make a purchase (for reasons which may or may not be in your control) at you by ignoring their responsibility to be transparent about it. 'Fuck your item, fuck YOU.' (This generally happens when there's been a number of setbacks, suggesting that the buyer is spreading his resources thinner than he probably should, in order to make the purchase.)

My email address allows me to setup aliases and I send my CL stuff through it. If that happens, I can delete the alias and the emails stop.

I got a hold of the guy who wanted the Duo Sonic and he is trying to sell an amp to purchase the guitar. More waiting unfortunately. I am just hoping I can move them sooner not later. The guy wanting to trade the Toronado said he would get back to me after the holidays which I took to mean after Thanksgiving though I am starting to think it may be longer if at all. I want to move the Jagmaster anyway I can.

I offered both guitars to someone on CL for Mustang RI, but he didn't want it.

If I can move them I still plan on going after the J. Mascis JM. If the deal falls through or it gets sold, there is a nice Fiesta Red Jag-stang in LA I might look into. I have family there and they might be able to go get it for me and I can send them the money. Still it all rest on me selling my guitars first.

It really sucks, this economy. Everyone is selling stuff and the market for used medium-lower end guitars is flooded. It sucks that such a classy guitar like the J.M. JM be just out of reach and a few hundred bills is between it and you.
Frankly getting rid of that Jagmaster asap is your best bet. Its $250 new, but its been modified so call it $175 even though your mods are for the better [subjectively, of course]

I put both the Squiers up on eBay. I priced them to sell so we will see how that goes. If I can move them both soon then I can make a run at the J. Mascis Jazzmaster, Jag-stang or buy parts for my Musicmaster project.

Ah. Good luck with the sales.

If I weren't buying the blue Mustang from Aeon, I would be taking the duo off your hands.

With about a day to go on both auctions, no bids yet but quite a few watchers. I am guessing that they are waiting until the last minute to bid. I am also getting a Xmas Bonus from work tomorrow that could be anywhere from $200-250. In addition to the Jazzmaster, I have been watching a 1967 Butchered Bronco on CL that the guy wants $200. I posted it in the classifieds. The ad is still there and hopefully that means the guitar is still for sale. By tomorrow night, I will know how much I will get for the Squiers and then I can decide my next move. If I can get $400 for both eBAy guitars and get my bonus I might offer $450 for the Jazzmaster and $150 for the Bronco (assuming both are not already gone) If the Bronco neck alone is good, it's worth the $200. I could use the neck to finish the Musicmaster project. If the body and tremolo both work, I could use the neck for the Musicmaster project while I restore the Bronco and then find another neck for the Musicmaster later down the road. The chances that all this happens is a long shot, but I never dreamed I could get an AVRI Jaguar for $700 for Guitar Center and that happened. Best case I get both guitars. Worse case they both are sold and I keep my cash for something else. If I get enough for the Squiers, I will go ahead and move on the Bronco and wait for the money to come back for the Jazzmaster. I can dream anyway!
