Hotrox also stock both versions of the EHX Graphic Fuzz. Combined with a distortion pedal it might do what you're after? The G/Fuzz won't do the 'wasps in a tin' you want to avoid.

Plenty of tonal control with either the Boss HM2 or the Graphic Fuzz.

Not tried the dirty Rat but tried the others. To me the standard Rat is too loose on the chugga chugga, need something more compressed. I like HM2s but mine didn't work for this stuff.
I'll check the guyatone links when I get home.

Nah, Andy is morecowbell on FSO (not shortscale's morecowbell as I've seen pics of both these people) and that's it as far as I know. Believe it or not he actually made a few corrections to values when I RE'D the Ultra Lord. Seemed like a pretty nice guy at the time but long after that under his HCFX username (forget what it was, although gringo loco does ring a bell) he was a wanted man as he took peoples $$ in advance for orders but wasn't delivering. I'm not sure if he delivered but he certainly fucked a lot of people around real good.

Heheh, i watched aen's demo's and they are that funny i cant even recall what the pedals sound like

This is what i'd like to do; go down to the rehearsal room for an afternoon with a bag full of pedals. But it aint gonna happen, looks like a trip to Hotrox in a few weeks.

EDIT: I done some detective work and I can now verify that GRINGO LOCO IS indeed MORECOWBELL (not SS.org) and DRAGONFLY. I fucking knew he was, I just couldn't remember. His names Andrew Carrell, he lives in the U.S and he is an alcoholic.

Gringo Loco admits he's dragonfly and I know for a fact that dragonfly is morecowbell

As mentioned, i noticed a lot of pedal demo's are with Amps already crunching up. So i'm thinking of trying a mild Overdrive in front of existing Fuzz pedals i have to start with, i dont know if it will achieve the same results but it could quite easily be a lot of the problem.
Its not ideal, i'd rather purchase one box that delivers, hence this thread.

The Laney Head is actually a PA head so as you can imagine it is very clean.

Whenever I did this with the OCD I got the best results at about 1/4 gain on the OCD......its kind of a balancing act if you know what I mean....just enough to flavor
