Is there actually any proof that Squier/Fender employs child labor to keep their costs low or is this all just general speculation that low costs for foreign made products is due to child labor?

LAWLUELLZ! I'm not one of those people who thinks everything coming out of China is shit simply for having come out of China, but you are T-ROLLING hards as rock dood! China makes some great shit, but they also make 99% of the worlds' worst shit. And I'm not saying it's because they get payed shit wages, it's because they pay shit for raw materials and quality control. Gibson's low end shit(actually, everything they make imo) sucks not because they aren't paying the workers enough, or putting enough money into the product, THEIR SHITTINESS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MONIES OR A LACK THEREOF! It's because their employees realized "hey dood, I can do jack shit and beat my pennir off with a belt sander, put guitar parts together incorrectly using my poop as adhesive, all while getting paid my awesome american wage, and my employers don't give a fuck!"

China is alright, it'll get the job done, and sometimes really fucking well, but saying they singularly make the highest quality products in the world is like having a tasty mcdonalds cheeseburger for a great price, and being like "I paid only 99 cents for this little fucker, and it tasted good!?! Fuck all other food, fuck sushi, lobster, kobe beef, black truffles, chocolate, fresh veggies, get them the fuck out, MCDONALDS IS THE SINGLE GREATEST FOOD IN THE WORLD EVER AND NOBODY SHOULD EAT ANYTHING BUT MICKEY FUCKING D's ALL FUCKING DAY LONG EVER!!!!!!"

Yep. When the country manufactures, what, only the great majority of consumer products out there, some are bound to be shit. But plenty are great. It always amuses me that people are like "I PLAY 'MERICAN GEETARS" and then they take out their smartphones and their clothes were made in Indonesia.

"American Made" hasn't equated to quality for decades. It's mostly just nationalism that makes it mean anything.

I'd pick up a Japanese Fender over an American any day. US Fender quality control is about as good as Mexico's.

The quality of life in China is not that amazing dude.

If you are rich or connected then sure yes it is fine, you buy diamond rings and european cars, but down the road from your 800k Shanghai Condo there are communities who dump their toilet buckets in the street and use fountains to brush there teeth.
Not to mention the quality of life in rural areas...

China is getting better, but it has such a long way to go it's not even funny. A middle class is just starting to appear, that's no excuse to suggest it's 5 days away from becoming paradise on earth.

Back on the subject, I played the flying V one today, was foul. The neck joint was particularly bad. I also played a Godin 5th Avenue which was absolutely lovely.

Dude the drugs that make you unable to know what is right and what is wrong hahah. no all throughout Asia they have the same problems, Its the Vietnam, Korea, Japan WWII, Middle East, Indonesian post war inability to share freedom of speech.

I'd say China has a great quality of life overall, compared to some parts of America probably better. but there are homeless and impoverished everywhere.

But It is 2011, not likes 1989. I'd feel safe there. but trade wise they are some of the hottest in the world right now. They have been outsourceing and outselling Australia for years now. Its been a crisis, We had to divert to advertising saying "Australia Made" just help out our sales.

They have a higher GDP than Canada.
Japan have been making quality goods for 40 years or more.
Mexico have gone from ranked 198 in 2010 globally, up to a staggering 62 in one year.
These are some of the Countries and states that have emerged from the Global Financial crisis in great form. as you can see Fender is taking advantage of this, whereas Gibson is not.

I don't trust anybody's opinion of Asia if they use the term "Korea" to mean "North Korea."
