I'm gonna piss on you?
Haze wrote:Someone here nailed it. A guitar player looking for a body shape and a scale length will find this as cheap thrills. Whereas a bass player might find the body uncomfortable, the construction and wood materials not ideal and lacking versatility in elecetronics. Haters gonna hate.
Why?
1. The body is good enough for Bill Wyman, Tina Weymouth, the list is endless and not worth repeating, really.
2. The scale is good enough for Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce, etc.
3. Basswood body is good enough for a lot of higher end instruments, especially those intended to be lightweight. Aerodyne Jazz Bass comes to mind.
4. Bolt-on maple neck construction does not need to be defended.
5. A bass with a single middle pickup is probably responsible for the majority of the best bass tracks ever recorded.
I really think that this Mustang Bass is going to hit the right spot for a lot of people. And everything but the selection of woods is probably in common with the Fender version anyway, and who would buy a Squier Mustang Bass if they didn't care for a Mustang Bass in the first place?

It seems just as many people bitch about satin finishes as people take steel wool to high gloss finishes. Please don't change a thing, Squier/Fender. Many people like it this way.

Everybody's been wishing for these for years now, and they finally do it, and people still find something to complain about?!?!? Shut up. It's a squier mustang bass. It's going to be cheap. It looks awesome. End of argument.

^^ Agreed 100%. Last year this time, our short-scale bass selection from Fender was what, the Bronco Bass and the Mustang Bass. Now we're possibly looking at four different choices, with three of them at a good price point. This is a good thing, period. If you don't like something, you can always customize it.
I wonder if this all points to a Squier Mustang guitar. And I hope when it happens, it comes with a satin maple neck and an HH route because it would make me laugh.

If it's 200 or under, I'll buy. If not, I'll buy Jag bass. Either way, thanks squier!

even if it's the Bronco bass with 3 ply pg, better pickups and nicer 70s colours, what's the problem? I was wondering what makes it a vintage "modified", the only reason I see is the body wood and the fact that the bridge don't has that dampering the originals have. But afaik the jap. bass doesn't have it, too? If I was a bass player I'd embrace this option if it sounds as good as it looks.

I wanna see some other colors!
I've wanted the Bronco bass for the longest time, and this might be a little better.

Good luck. If it comes in anything other than black and sunburst I'll be surprised.

I'd like to see a CAR with black guard. I realize I'm the only guy that likes that look... but, well... I do.

I really dislike when the pickguard is the same color as the pickups. I think the Mustang Bass pickups are cute and unique and should be highly visible.

Link wouldn't work for me, but there's a pic of the Sunburst Stang bass there. Very nice looking.

WOW, that sunburst 'stang is HAWT! Who woulda thought that Squier would have reissued something like that? Sunburst bass, maple neck? Hello beautiful 1970s!

The sunburst stang bass looks awesome! So does the new blacktop jazz bass. I'm interested in checking out how that will sound too. Dual p bass pickups, one closer to the bridge, and one closer to the neck seems like it could make some pretty cool tones.

Agreed, the sunburst is good, but I've got my eye on the Fender Newporter Traveller and them ukeleles.
