You've obviously never played a Fender Jaguar or Telecaster, or Stratocaster.

+1. I always ran my guitars wide open until I got my AVRI Jaguar. The tone knob on a Jaguar makes a huge difference compared to so many other guitars. I usually have the tone knob pointing at the input jack except when I want vibrant cleans when running through a delay pedal. On my Baja Tele, the tone knob really takes the edge off the sound. I would not ever want a guitar without it, except maybe Fender 72' or one of the Sonic Youth JM, though I might add it back on one of those JMs.

Totally stuck between the two now. They both look decent, but the HH has the edge in terms of looks for me, it's such a pretty guitar. The HH's coil split feature is really neat, and the super high output would be useful for breaking up my little LB, but if it doesn't sound good it could get pricey replacing the pickups - plus how likely is it I'll find an affordable humbucker that'll sound like a Jag when coil split, or anything particularly interesting?

If someone could take clips side by side of the two guitars(or two different people providing good quality cl) I think it would help me and potentially many others to decide. As I said I just don't want to fall into the trap of sounding like a Strat or LP(but having the option wouldn't be bad).

One of my fav guitarists, Chiemi from Mass of the Fermenting Dregs, uses a Jag and that's kind of what started me on my offset search.

Of course that's probably a CIJ with the thinner pickups, but I imagine the low cut will approximate that.

I do like green. Dunno how well it'd go with the red though. I mean colour theory wise it does.

I dress up on stage so I don't want something that clashes too heavily with my outfits, but having something that stands out a bit would be fine.

Yeah, but don't forget that ideally the HH should be particularly good at SS tones compared to most coil split guitars due to the high resistance and ability to fade between HH and SS so if it's too thin you can go a little more on the SS side.

I also like to have the option of something a bit thicker as I play Industrial type stuff too which requires some metul like toanz.

Of course the CP Jag seems to have some pretty meaty pickups too.

I think I'm leaning more towards the CAR SS now, but I still would like to hear better clips of the two. It's possible I could end up liking the coilsplit tone of the HH more for whatever reason.

I'm kind of worried though that'll it'll just end up sounding too much like a Strat in the long run. Since the're basically Strat pickups, a lot of the tone must be coming from the bridge and Trem which are different. Maybe a bridge swap will work? one that sounds more like Jag but the strings don't skip out of? Mustang bridge?

Also strongly considering the Baritone though. More low end range would be nice.

A big difference between the Jag and a Strat is in the circuit; i.e. the 1Meg pots rather than 250k that are in a Strat, plus the switching options.
There is a fair difference between a Strat and Jag, despite the pickup similarities. You can get some Jag-y tones from a Strat, but it's hard to get those definitive Strat tones from a Jag. It's possible, but it takes some EQ work.

Baritone is fun, and depending on which model you go for, it could actually be a bass (i.e. Jaguar Baritone Custom or Jaguar VI). I liked the one I played.

the 'rhythm circuit' on my cp jag has 1meg pots. you can use the pickup switch as a kill switch, but the clicking sound comes through the amp.

Alright, my basic question here is "Does the CP Jaguar sound more like a Strat due to the lower break angle and TOM bridge? Is there a bridge you could swap in to get a more traditional offset sound without the strings jumping out? Or do the modified pickups make it sound more like it's own instrument?"

In my humble opinion the CP hh jag when in single coil mode, doesn't sound like a strat. It's got a sound of its own.
At www.rondomusic.com they sometimes sell 24" scale smaller bodied strat clones. They have a neck which tapers down to a one and a half inch nut. This could be a bit small. I have two of these. I use these to get my strat tones. They are very good for the price but do not compare to a real fender strat.
Very occasionally they sell a 24" scale strat clone with a full size body and a full width neck. I haven't got one so I can't coment on them. This could be a way of getting a strat tone from a 24" scale guitar whith a limeted budget. but remember the saying ---what you pay for, is what you get.
