I think it sounds really good with single coils... see vids above
This is quite possible in addition rather than instead of but:Fran wrote:Apparently, Joey Santiago used an OS-2 in the early days of the Pixies.
A DF-2!? I always found they had a volume drop, i know Swervedriver and Kitchens of Distinction used them though.Doog wrote:This is quite possible in addition rather than instead of but:Fran wrote:Apparently, Joey Santiago used an OS-2 in the early days of the Pixies.
"The last guitar roadie the Pixies had (in Europe at least) was a very cool guy called Scotty who recently told me that the distortion pedal used on Trompe le Monde was a BOSS Super Distortion. At least I think that's what it's called, but you can identify it very easily as its the only orange distortion pedal boss make. Plug it in and you'll hear the sound immediately." -Joey's tech
Do it, and tell us what it's like!George wrote:This thread makes me want to buy an OS2 again.
Four with the PW-2. With 'super' in the reference i'd assume the DF-2 but the guy probably meant 'turbo'...Mike wrote:Plus Boss made like 3 Orange Distortions, even back in the 80s.
I think Boss pedals will always bring up some fond memories because most people started out with at least one in their set up. The SD-1 was one of my first pedals and i still like it.George wrote:This thread makes me want to buy an OS2 again.
PW-2 wasn;t out in the time of the Pixes.Fran wrote:Four with the PW-2. With 'super' in the reference i'd assume the DF-2 but the guy probably meant 'turbo'...Mike wrote:Plus Boss made like 3 Orange Distortions, even back in the 80s.

This is what made me start this thread. I was remembering my old DS1 that a friend gave me which was my first distortion pedal and thinking about how things were easier back then when I didn't care so much about tone - I just wanted to make as much noise as possible, oh and the fact that Kurt Cobain used one which meant that it was pretty cool. 2nd pedal I had a Black Russian Muff which came in a wooden ammo box, that was awesome too - by this point i'd decided I wanted to make noise like Smashing Punmkins/Mudhoney and it ruled.Fran wrote:I think Boss pedals will always bring up some fond memories because most people started out with at least one in their set up. No, i meant at the time it was released. Although its fair to say the DF-2 was probably discontinued by that point.Mike wrote:PW-2 wasn;t out in the time of the Pixes.Fran wrote:Four with the PW-2. is the DF-2 the feedbacker one? i had one of them, it was exactly the same as a DS-1 (i A/B'd them), but with an added useless feature. sold it for stupid money.Fran wrote:No, i meant at the time it was released. Don't hate cos I've got bones to throw at boutique pedals, broski.Dave wrote:Ban George
Aye, i've had about three over the years. If the volume was'nt an issue it could have been a great pedal.stewart wrote:is the DF-2 the feedbacker one? i had one of them, it was exactly the same as a DS-1 (i A/B'd them), but with an added useless feature. sold it for stupid money.Fran wrote:No, i meant at the time it was released.
