beautiful, i'd rotate the control plate so that the switch is at the but end of the guitar myself, but damn son, just right pretty.
makes me kinda wish i still had a jagmaster to modify.

Don't listen to him: the next job I do on my tele is to unflip the control plate - just doesn't work for me. Makes adjusting the tone too fiddly.

i suppose there is that, just with the switch up front like that, i always inadvertently hit it while playing and swap pickups.. and never for the best.
i was just saying that if it was mine, that is what i would do, obviously each player will have their own preference.

Thanks Guys.
I have considered it but I like the close proximity of the pickup selector, the vol / tone, I'd use less so.
May flip it one day for giggles.
Just applied the decal.... and wondering whether it'll be tough enough without any kind of clear coat. Anyone have experience ?

Oh, and forgot to say.... the guitar is really light and resonant, never expected that.
I normally like a weighty guitar, but it feels good... and better on the back.

That looks really tidy, well done a very nice build.
fully approve of thin finishes on guitars.

I have an AV '57 Strat, the decal has become slightly more textured over time and a little fleck came out of the d in Fender when something knocked it... you could take any of it off in a second with your fingernail if you wanted to, or if you accidentally scratch it with the end of a string while changing them. It's not a problem in the back of my mind at all times, and I've only truly damaged the decal once in 10 years (aforementioned fleck missing from "d") but still, that's why they started putting them under lacquer. It doesn't really photograph well either, the less-than-smooth surface to the decal reflects glare.
I'd at least spray over it lightly, and evenly. Don't apply too much at once or the solvents in the lacquer will eat the decal while wet.
Guitar looks great.

Thanks Paul, I don't really want to buy a tin of clear just for this job if I can help it.
Things I have.... PVA, Hairspray, Clear Enamel in a jar... I did wonder if any of these would be suitable.
What I'm concerned about is crinkling / Ink running etc etc....
I do have another spare decal if all went tits up.

Otho, your logo looks great!!
One thing a friend of mine does when he builds a variation of a Gibson or Fender, he puts a small plaque on the back of the headstock, "Custom Built by....". He has some national visibility and does this so no one connected with either company is offended by his use of their logo.
Enjoy your creation...

Thanks Doug, I was going to put a signature on the back of the headstock but then felt it was a little bit conceited especially as I never carved the body, made the neck.... only assembled and and applied a dodgy finish.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fender were pissed off. I only think it's necessary when building to sell perhaps. Anyways... I'll probably keep it blank.
If I do it'll be this very small in sharpie:

Very nice, I'm impressed with how quickly you got it together and how little it cost for a parts guitar. I pretty much only use Axes R Us for small parts now with the only usual reason not to being that I'm after something they don't sell.

Thanks guys... Yeah Axesrus are great.
I put it together quickly because I ordered all parts from them in a oner, and because I'm very impatient.
The only thing I'm changing is the bridge pickup and that's it. Everything else fits the bill perfectly.
I've got a Dimarzio Super Distortion on order, I think that'll be with me wednesday.
I've taken it apart again and have been lining the sides of the pocket with paint to take up the neck pocket gap, and I've reshaped the guard a little so it's a little more balanced aesthetically. Otherwise. bringing the body to a light sheen.
Will get some proper pics when finished.

Do you need to shield the pickup cavities?

I haven't but it's deadly silent.... should I bother ? Do I need to ?
cheers.

The one i last applied i was advised to keep going over it with fine coats of lacquer to gradually build it up, if you flood it it lifts the decal.
On the Mosrite decal i just left it and its been fine, i dare say it would easily scratch off though.
Project looks ace Owen, really good work

If it's silent, all you need to do is take it where there are fluorescent lights overhead, like maybe the guitar shop. That's the best test and if it's relatively quiet, why bother shielding?
It's just that some single coils are annoying under those lights.
Keep up the diligent work and enjoy the beautious axe.
