I just read that Squier book you had Fran and its fascinating reading looking at the production sites and some of the reasons why they moved ranges about. Top read for anyone interested in the last 30 odd years history of FenderFran wrote:Yes it was.iCEByTes wrote:about i think Fender Toronado GT was made in Korea by Cort in Oem , amazing guitar.
samick made some top lines of Squier.
I believe the Lite Ash Fenders and Pro-Tone Squiers were also. There were some obscure ranges too like the Deluxe Specials; anyone remember the quilt top Cyclone and Toronado?
Always been a fan of the Korean stuff and if you had asked this question a few years ago they would have made up the majority of my collection.

Thought you would enjoy it Chris. Everyone here would enjoy it i think. In many ways the Squier brand saved Fender and has since become a brand in its own right, but it is Fender at the same time, quite a bizarre story.
i think it would be interesting to see how far east production saved a lot of other brands as well and I think James' thread might hint at that.
Sorry James for the hijack on the thread

My current clutch of keepers:
Fender Jazzmaster, Custom 335 copy, Grant Thinline Tele copy, Grant Strat copy, Commodore Strat copy, Columbus Jazz Bass copy, No-name (actually has a badly-painted Fender logo on it) Tele copy - Japan
Rickenbacker 360/12v.64, Fender Mustang, Schecter Hellcat Bass - USA
Seagull S12+ - Canada (or Quebec, if you prefer)
Schecter Hellcat 6-string, Encore Shortscale Precision - Korea
Takamine EG-10 - Taiwan
Squier Precision Plus bass - Indonesia
Unbranded Hand-made Acoustic - UK (probably)
Valencia Classical Guitar - Spain
I think I could afford to lose a couple of basses....and maybe some electrics!
